Read this book on the plane last week. Is the movie worth renting or buying? The book was pretty interesting.

Eaters of the Dead?  The Viking one?  That blew goats.

I doubt he'll ever top Sphere.

I hated Sphere. Eaters of the Dead wasn't bad, IMHO. It's just another telling of Beowulf. The movie was okay (13th Warrior?)

You hated Sphere?  How the...?  ehh?  errmmm?

Never saw the movie.  No desire to after reading the book.

I did enjoy the insights into viking culture, even though the plot was so unmemorable I don't really remember why I didn't like it.  :)

I read the book and it was just tedious. Crighton is a hit or miss author for me. Same goes for Follet, but I liked his "Pillars of the Earth".

no, sucked.

maybe thats a little harsh.  if it was released for broadcast tv, and I saw it on a saterday afternoon, fine.  but after paying $3 to rent it I didn't walk away thinking the money was well spent.

If you thought sphere was tedious, what'd you think of Andromeda Strain?

That's another one I loved, but will admit that it was a bit slow-moving.  I put sphere above it for the reason that it wasn't, in my mind at least, tedious at all.  Would have made a great sci-fi thriller/thinker if someone like Spielberg or Cameron had done it.

Who's Follet?

The book was better than the movie. Neither was very original.

That's exactly what Crichton was intending.  It was on original interpretation of the Beowulf story.

I thought both Sphere and Congo were great books, I couldn't put either one of them down.  Now the movies sucked balls, that's for sure.

Sphere rocked.  The movie neutered the story - but was good nonetheless. :)
