Title: Chino 2004
Post by: mietla on May 06, 2004, 12:12:40 PM
Ok guys, time to make some preparations. So far Funked and I have 5 people to carpool from San Jose are. This mean two cars, I'll be driving one and Bumwipe (probably) the second one. We are planning to stay at Covina Embassy Suites (rates $99-$200). Funked will make the reservations as soon as we know who is going.

So, speak up!

P.S. The current plan is to leave Fri at 3:00-4:00 PM. Early, delicious STEAK dinner at Harris Ranch and then upon arrival, a traditional kabanosy and beer evenning.

Saturday, Airshow all day and a dinner afterwards.
Sun morning, static displays at the Museum, leaving around noon.

Hmmm Harris Ranch, yummy beef... But the Denny's on the other side of I5 is nice too. ;)

Unfortunately there is no way I can go, I want to graduate in June so I must focus on my senior projects.

Find an adult with a cell to accompany you to the airshow.  Then we can hook up.

No worries Funked. I assumed as much. :)

What can I say? I live in a town that takes 5 minutes to cross from end to end and there is no cell coverage where I work so... Haven't found a huge compelling use for it.

Capt.Pork, on the first night we'll be calling each other "Bumwipe" and "Mielta", on the second night we'll call each other "Chuck" or "Bob", and by the third night we'll be calling each other "Batman" or "StickyBuns."

The saddest thing you'll ever see is the farewells in the hotel parking lot after one of these get togethers. There's alot of tears, alot of hugs and... well, alot of love.

That, alone, is why I will attend.

Sorry sandman. If I can get out earlier I'll let you know. I was gonna suggest meeting for breakfast at Farmer Boys. It's about 4 offramps shy of Chino, right after you transition onto the 60.

I need to delegate more.

Is there any particular time or spot to meet up at?  I'm in Oceanside (San Diego) and am thinking I may possibly go and would enjoy meeting a few AH'ers.  It's not a sure thing fo rme though as I have an appt late morning though and will try to see if I can postpone that.

Puke I remember last time there was a food court type deal near a big control tower.  Assuming it is there this time, I'm going to meet Sandy there at 11am because he is comms-challenged.  If you have a mobile phone, email me at funkedup308@hotmail.com and we'll trade numbers.

Funked, yes I do remember that food court and the tower.  However, I decided I'm not going to be changing my Saturday appt and it's at 11:30 which pretty much ruins the day for anything else.  I have to get this thing done and I think it best I relax the rest of the weekend.   It would've been fun to meet AHers and see that Tigercat and F86/MiG15 flyby again.

At one time there were 25 warbirds in the air. Chino rocks.

LOL, Sorry that I missed you guys!
I thought I had Airhead's cell#, but didn't. Too late when I finally realized it.
I had mild heat stroke/dehydration on Sat, had to cut out early. Skipped the static display on Sun. (The trouble with lugging 35-40 lbs of equipment around.)

No prob Saburo, we'll get together next year.  Airhead forgot his phone, I lost his number, we got there late, etc.  :)
The guys I am talking about were (according to one of the airshow announcers I talked to) the entire membership of the association of Zero pilots (ww2 vets).  They came over to see the two Zekes fly.  Did you get to see the FM2 and the A6M5 take off together?

Nash and Grun,
Canon 10D 6.3mp digital SLR
17-40mm f/4.0L
70-200mm f/2.8L (w/1.4TC)
400mm f/5.6L
1GB Sandisk Extreme CF
1GB Sandisk UltraII CF
60GB ImageTank G2
Manfrotto Tripod (will reach up to 8')
Manfrotto Monopod
Manfrotto 488RCO Ball head
MacGabee foldup aluminum chair (strong, used it as a stool to get shots over other's heads)
Lowepro Pro Trekker AW II Backpack (Sat)
Promaster Camera Backback (Sun)
Other misc stuff as well
Water and juices to try and keep hydrated!

Turned out I really didn't need to bring the supports as it is easier to track and pan more accurately by handholding.

Nash,
Film is going to be dead IMHO.
The shots you're looking at here are at 1/4 resolution from the original output. Can get prints as large as 40"X60" with these using Photoshop.
I'll never go back to film, EVER.
Title: Chino 2004
Post by: Nash on May 17, 2004, 11:28:55 PM
Wow...

It's the shutter speed that usually kills me with the digital cams... but you've sure seemed to nail it.

Some photographers I use have digital cams but they're $1000's...

But if you can get shots like these with a consumer-type version, then no doubt - they're viable enuff.

Film will never be completely dead though, I doubt. It may be a pain in the ass, but there's something about it...

Its not my pic, I think bug posted it.

The D70 camera matches the image quality of Saburos 10D.

The rest depends on len$ and of course the skill of the photographer.

As I just got into SLR photography last week I'm severly lacking in both. ;)

It's located at:

http://larsenphotography.com/ (http://larsenphotography.com/)

Click on the picture (each picture is a link to a different theme specific storefront) that's labeled "Planes of Fame". Once there, click on the title of specific events to view the images.
50% of the net profit is being donated back to the Planes of Fame Air Museum. I'll have all the folders/events (1-7) of the Air Show up within 1-2 weeks (2500+ images are a lot to go through).

Saburo,

Today I paid $370 for an airshow pic from a stock house. It wasn't my idea, and the design is ridiculous, but it's what the client wanted. An air-show team and a blurb about "teamwork" for the HR department of some company. It's soooo silly. :) I'll post it here when it's done.

The point is...

The $370 was *cheap*. Prolly the least I've paid for a stock shot.

Your pics are of better quality (than this particular one and many others. But they have alotta decent stuff.).

The stock houses take a cut, but you get royalties... You might think of submitting your pics to some of these.

Getty images, comstock, etc.

Just an idea.
