Title: Return of beta terrain
Post by: SFRT - Frenchy on October 03, 2000, 11:27:00 AM
Dear AH comunauty, I just wanted to express my feelings about the return of the Beta terrain.

I'm not really a gang banger or a furball lover. Coming higher and diving on a planes dogfighing lower and try to get some till it's ur turn to get shot at is not really what I like. Usually I try to go to places where few are rather than the usual cloud of fighter around a targeted field.

I like the 1/1, 2/3 kind of stuff but not the "big mess". I have a hard time finding some fight appart from the "freeway of fighters between 2 eni fields".

As far as I'm concerned, I would love a map from the size of the 1.03 MA.

Salute all, just needed to express my thoughts to someone  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) before I come back fighting and end up epileptic.

That's a common problem with all flight sims now.
You will get realistic flying experience in the organised events. (You did not mention realism in your post but that is what it looks like to me).

The main arena is not supposed to provide the realistic experience - training at most.
If a realistic arena were introduced alongside with the MA it would be empty - there are not enough like-minded people with free time on their hands to populate it around the clock.
Of course it is possible that after the other sims go bust, the inflow of the people to AH will allow to have such an arena working.

For now the quality, and quantity, diversity and ease of use of the organised events is going to improve drastically in the near future.
AH already has the tools no other online sim has - terrain editor, mission planner, RW integration, ground forces.
A few more planes, navy, terrains, a bit more experience... Who will need MA then!

That's exactly the way I look at it too Miko. The MA is just a place to keep yer chops up for the real thing.... Scenarios, events etc. There's quite a few already, and even more on the horizon... Enough to keep most people busy  enough throughout the week without even stepping foot into the MA.

However, some of the largest and most furious furs I've ever seen have been there, and not in the MA... Perhaps Frenchy the ladder is a place you could look into for good pure 1v1s and 2v2s etc?

Miko and Nash, thx for sharing your point of view but I think I made myself missundertsood due to my bad english.

H2H is nice but it's out of any strategical aspect. What I like is to take off to 'protect' something. meaning whatever I found out there, it serves a purpose if I shot it down. The H2H is simillar to WW2 Janes for me.

The historical events are great too, no doubt about that. What I'm talking about is the size of the map. In AW3 for example, the FR Big PAc was great bicause you had a lot of fields, so you could always find a place to fight "not too crowded". WB was not good, I remember the Med arena where all the action was at the same place, a huge furball feed by 2 opposing fields.

I find this back in the old beta terrain. This map as some great things like canyons and V fields close to each others for some good tank battle but it's a furball oriented map.

I prefer the bigger map of the 1.03, as it allows the furball type of fight but also suits people like me who prefer to 'fight aside' but still participating to a war effort.

Hope I explained better this time  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Ah...yah, I understand Frenchy. Well, if it's any consolation, HTC will be cycling the terrains every ToD... the start of every month.  I quite like the beta terrain...nay.... I love it... But it sounds like rotating the terrains will work out well for everyone.
