that there is such a majority of luftweenies/german orientated squads, and players in online games?
no whine, no rant, just a question.
-
Why not? 109's and 190's are some of the best looking aircraft ever built. :)
I know I got into LW planes because I love B-17's and read a lot of books in my childhood that talked about 190s and 109s as the enemies of B-17's.
Besides, I'd bet that there are lots more "American" squads out there that fly primarily US iron, as well as tons more "Allied" squads. It's just that nobody calls them allied squads since there are so many that they don't stand out as "niche" squads.
At best, LW squads are just the biggest minority.
-
it's a personality type..
that type often needs structure and regimentation in their (virtual) lives. they get confused and angry when they need to ad lib or things don't go as expected and requires spur of the moment intiative. they don't like to take risks. they like to perceive themselves as the underdog bad guy with superior intellect/skills, a doomed hero admired by all.
ever notice they're usually the most anal retentive and nit-picky over the most minute of details?
not all who fly lw planes have this personality type, nor do all with this type join lw squads, but there is truth to the old adage that birds of a feather flock together.
this same type can be found in most rigidly structured squads with clearly defines roles regardless of their "national affliation" or whether or not they use a historical squad.
-
Shane's right about that too. In my squad, we all goose step from the hangar to the runway, make sure that we press the N button to appear simultaneously otr, and we issue squad ranks, promotions, medals, and only call each other by our rank. We only speak German on vox, too. And we polish our leather underwear after every squad night. Oh yeah, we have squad nights.
And if you believe that we do any of the above, you need to wing with us sometime to get edumacated. :) We're nothing more than a bunch of guys who like 190s. "regimentation" my arse.
-
mymymy a bit defensive are we? is that the doomed hero or the underdog in you speaking out? :D
i didn't use absolutes. or point a finger at anyone in specific.
-
...same reason there are USAF and IJN fan squads.
a LW attack in disguise.
-
the Luftwobble squads are to be commended! The Bf's and FW's
are, shall we say,a bit more difficult to fly,and the guns are a slap in the face to German technology.I've noticed the LW guys are mostly very well behaved, and good to have around in a furball.
The ones that fit into Shanes mold in my opinion, are the sons of Nippon.Flying them 4 cannoned ufo's,that have a seemingly endless supply of ammo, and a range that exceeds belief.
Thats my couple of cents worth.Better get out of here, before Shane accuses me of ankle humpin,or calls me a fweenie:lol
-
Yawohl, Germans admire good organization and efficiency. Forming fighting units seems a logical extension from that.
At least that's what has been ingrained in my German-Scotch-Irish-Dutch (and maybe Swiss) heritage, i.e., curb the griping, no whining, quit screwing around, carry your fair share, get the job done, and don't get a fat head about it.
-
Hmm, I remember the last time I made a nazi comment on the Combat theatre board, everyone got pissed off...
-
109 and 190's are cute and fund!
(''''\(o.O)/'''')
-
shane is correct and everyone knows it... also.. the fastest LW planes take the least skill of any planes to fly... the guns hit hard so that you don't have to tarry and maybe expose yourself to a fight.
Oddly enough...A lot of LW guys don't like hearing this tho.. They cry mightily. I wish they would make up their minds if they were dark, evil and ruthless precision nazi pilots or... just crybabies with no skill who fly for the girly grey.

It's a preference about a certain stereotypical aspects of the German military. For one thing, them being the historic loser in the first place, intrigues and invokes interest in a lot of people.
Psychologically, there are two different preferences in people when they assume a certain 'role' to themselves; the first type is the "othodox" type. They pick the historic winners.
If it were a classic fantasy-based role-playing game they'd probably be on the "side of the light". For a certain "job", they'd pick something like the casual and normal 'warrior' or the 'knight' and etc etc.
The opposite preference to that also exists, which is known as "the unorthodox type".. as some people prefer to choose the "side of the darkness". In role-playing games they love choosing the uncommon, weird, and unorthodox type of characters. Its can be viewed as a surge of individualism by denouncing and rejecting the normal conditions.
A classic example is the movie "Star Wars" - while many people are intrigued by the noble of order of the Jedi or the Rebel Alliance, a lot of other people are more interested in the Empire. Those two are opposite extremes - the Empire appeals itself in its uniformity and organization, unlike the Rebel Alliance which is basically a loosely formed rag-tag band of warriors who are living symbols of Bohemian freedom.
As a general rule of thumb, the "orthodox types" set higher values in emotion and freedom, relating to the concept of "Romanticism". On the other hand, the "unorthodox types" stand on the side of reason, self-control, organization and discipline - which can be summarized into the concept of "Modernism"
Ofcourse, this doesn't mean the former is a careless irresponsible person, and the latter is a regular neo-Nazi.
It's just a way how our inner cravings and sub-conscious values, and fascinations, manifests itself in the form of virtual identity. For instance a person could be very reasonable and organized in his normal life, but his subconsciousness may choose to convert, and express itself in the form of the opposite side when an opportunity rises - such as when we create alter-egos in gaems, or root for certain heros or anti-heros while watching a movie. Much the same, a very free and liberal person, might choose to become something very different when he makes up an alter-ego.
So basically, one type of person is a "Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde" sort of being, while the other is "no differences, both inside and out".
And no other type appeals to the unorthodox, than the German side, in these sort of games.
I'm definately the 'unorthodox' type. I hate flying things which many people already fly. I hate making up same type of characters when playing role-playing games. I don't care if my character is weak or sucks balls - as long as its original. As long as its pretty much certain that no-one else develops his game character in that way, I'm satisfied. I'll choose the ugly looking guy, or the fat guy, or the wierd freak type of character when playing games. In martial arts fighting games, I'd choose the character with the most weird/absurd type of fighting style.
And when it comes to AH, I'll usually fly German in the MA. If in the CT I'll play the Axis. If German planes aren't available I'll play with the IJN/IJAAF planes(but not the Niki..), and if both of them aren't available I'd stand on the side of the Soviet planes rather than British or the USAAF/USN.
It's just that something different from the 'mainstream' intrigues me more.
-
nope... that's not it.. it is what shane and I said.

What you and Shane have said is basically just another "Why I'm the Real Pilot, and the Rest of You are all Dweebs" manifesto, lazs :)
If that were the case, wouldn't they all fly La-7s or P-51Ds? Clearly the P-51D is especially better suited for MA combat than any Fw190D-9 or a Bf109G-10. Better dive, better at high alts, 50cals, long flight duration, better ordnance.. etc etc.
Not to mention the Luftwobbles I see in the MA rarely use those two - I see them using the G-2 or the F-4, or the Fw190A-5 or the A-8 most of the times.
The "Fast plane lovers are Pansies" theory doesn't explain everything ;) Don't go the way of Freud! Basically, even if they would fly early war planes like you'd approve, they'd still fly a C.202 or a Bf109E-4, or a A6M2 - rather than use a F4F-4 or a FM-2. So, how do you explain that?
-
C.202 or a Bf109E-4, or a A6M2 - rather than use a F4F-4 or a FM-2. So, how do you explain that?
because there shameless dweebs who dont know a good plane when they see it?

you fly for wrong side...
for example, if you fly agains bish, you will find them fly mostly spit or niki

actually what *you* said in a doctoral dissertion is what i *said* in simple layman's terms.
:D

Nope.. if they flew La7's they would be tempted to fight so they fly deeee 9's and geee 10's.. that is what I see the most of.. can't catch either one with anything and they outclimb what they have trouble running from.

yawn...same ole whine vs LW planes. Your argument can be said for the LA7 too. It's called variety guys. Not everyone is obsessed with low alt FM2 furballs every sortie.
-
nope... La7 guys will fight. If every deee 9 in the game were replaced with La7's I would have more fun. LW guys don't fight... That is the problem. Never good to see em in the game.

lazs when you have some dumb chicken running around left and right that you must kill for dinner, you don't go by 50 ways to chop it's head off.
why don't you ask 'lw' guys like jg2 what they do when from their stall bricks they see a good furball.. ask Frenchy etc what my idea of fun in a 262 or 152 versus their pack of 47s etc is.
-
mumm p47's :D
i enjoy a good furball in a 109 and 190 but it is different in a 190 you must rope a dope to get kills or atleast that is the way for me but i suck at LW.

Because they like the feel of the course leather G strings and nipple clamps.
ack-ack
-
wow moot... 262's and 152's... gee, I sure like to see them in the game.. lots of furball fun there eh? yeah.. waht a furball extravaganza that would be.. 152's and 262's against p47's. Hope you guys do it somewhere far from me.
The only good thing about those planes is that I see em so seldom.
lazs
-
lazs you never seen moot work his 152 in a furball?
-
yer such a little brown noser skull :lol
interesting points brought up. not saying all are like this, but... 5 squaddies and myself are in DA, just messing about in different types of planes 3 vs 3.
One has to leave. So there is this guy in there (who shall remain nameless) we ask if he wants to join in.
Ok he says, rules for the round are p-40b's 25% fuel - at label range we see P40 and 109 and he flies off away from the ensuing tangle to get alt and bnz.
Ok maybe he didnt understand that its same plane fighting, so we explain again that we all go in same aircraft, he is pissed off he has to give up his 109 but does it anyway.
So its FM2's next round, once again we merge and 1 of the fm2's goes awol, AGAIN he goes to get alt and bnz.
This guy has no comprehension how to fight at all unless its BnZ, he got all aggressive after that saying how he should be allowed to fly his G-10 and challenging squad members to a duel. When the duel starts he proceeds to BnZ AGAIN (and loses - again).
This is a guy that is in the MA and lands a lot of kills there.
The reason i brought this thread up is i always see the luftweenie cheerleaders in the aircraft/vehicles forum and AHII forum, and you look at the sigs in the WWIIOL forum, vast majority of them are luftweenies.
I personally have nothing against them - infact i have much respect for those that can fight on equal or less favourable terms in their LW iron. The type of player mentioned above, that cant fight equal terms or has no willingness to fight is just pathetic.

chee lazs nice fishing, look at all those catches :)
we all know you didnt ment that. after all you are not THAT stupid.
saying LW iron is easy to fly. and that you dont need skill to fly them.
pfft you crack me :lol
oh and yea those 30mm hit hard, the catch is you have to get real close for the kill. and the 20mm Mg151 must be the worse 20mm cannon in the game.

Ahh quit pickin on the Luftwobbles. I was in a Luftwobble squad for 3 years over the hill. Plane of choice there was the A-4.
I liked flyin for the underdog and with their STUPID axis/allied setup flying leather meant being outnumbered 2 to 1 on good the nights. 3 to 1 on other nights..
I know the fasination of the leather.
I fly leather a couple of times a year over here. Keep the leather in the closet for when the need comes..
It chafes me cuz it went and got stiff from non use.

Here's a picture of my beloved A-4. I painted it as Hauptmann Hans Hahn's ride, Gruppenkommandeur III./JG 2, Poix France, September of 42

Hold on, let me get my slides and photo albums...
You got time ??
:D

what kind of chicken is that on the cowl?
-
Shane don't be a silly. That's not a chicken, that's a c-ock.
III./JG 2 put pictures of their c-ocks on their 109F's and their 190A series rides.
It looks wittle in the picture but actual size it was a BEEG C-OCK..
I hope this clears it up for you.
Do you have a picture of your c-ock painted on your ride ??
Wait...
I don't wanna know.
:D
-
yeah lazs, I do with 262s against random props what I do with n1ks against zekes and 109s against mkIXs and A20s VS F6Fs when the FHs have gotten shelled etc. way over your head right?

Then you'd please to know that the paint scheme of Egon Meyer's Fw190A-5, the commander of III./JG2 in 1943, is officially included in AH2.

When the F4U skins are together so we can work them without concessions I wanna do a rode hard put away wet, faded, beat up, patched up, paint chipped, oil leaking Hog that tells a story.
Nothin like a ride with a story to tell.
..and find the time to do it.
