In testing to date, the MTHEL testbed has destroyed 28 Katyusha rockets and five artillery shells in flight.
-
The threat in Iraq is from RPG's. That's what they need to stop.
-
well if they can hit an arty shell in flight that might not be too far away.
-
That was cool!
Using these "lasers", we punch a hole in the protective layer around the world which we called the "ozone layer".
Sorry, couldn't resist.

From your link?
"The destruction of a new threat type once again demonstrates the capability of the MTHEL testbed," said Wes Bush, president of Northrop Grumman's Space Technology sector. "We are excited about the historic accomplishments and we are fully prepared to move to the next stage of building the MTHEL prototype."
-
Holy crap, that is cool.
Grun, LOL.
-
I remember reading of some of the first successful laser tests a few years back but hadn't heard anything new until this.
anyone know if they have managed to get them to work on overcast days or other non-perfect weather conditions.
very cool technology though. one nice benefit is that if it misses you don't have projectiles falling back to earth, or undetonated charges lying around. sounds like a very clean weapon.

gotta crawl b4 u walk

This could be deployed in a number of threat areas including israel S korea taiwan.
I'm not sure If Iran has long range capabiliy yet but if they ever did this would be the perfect system to keep from getting nuked or gassed.
