Far out man.

Guy was a consumate pilot and a friend to anyone who flew. Just screwed the pooch once and that was all it took.

Damn, that's harsh. He has 14 gold albums and 8 platinum in the USA alone. He owned a Lear Jet, was also an aerobatic pilot. The guy made some really great music and was pretty upstanding.
And you work where and have what kinda plane?

John Denver was only following his instincts...
And so were you when you made this post.
Makes you think where the human race is in the cycle of things..

I wonder how much Denver's love of weed coupled with short term memory loss had to play in this?
PROBABLE CAUSE
The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause of this accident was the pilot's diversion of attention from the operation of the airplane and his inadvertent application of right rudder that resulted in the loss of airplane control while attempting to manipulate the fuel selector handle. Also, the Board determines that the pilot's inadequate preflight planning and preparations, specifically his failure to refuel the airplane, was causal.
-
In the Long EZ, the fuel selector switch was located behind the pilot's head. In order to switch tanks, the pilot would have to look up and behind him to his left. If you've ever tried this in a car, you'll find that you begin to put pressure on either the brake or the throttle (usually the throttle). I believe this is what the FAA is trying to say in their report - that he was looking back to his left and trying to turn the knob with his right hand and put pressure on his right foot (right rudder pedal) which caused the spin.
He should've checked his tanks and made sure he had the proper one selected before he launched.
And this is one ugly scheme.

Was probably big in the '70s, though. And judging by the selection of women's swimsuits this season, it looks like the '70s schemes are coming back.

None, according to the accident report. Uh... you DID read read the link you put up, right?
-
Actually, I blame his teachers, any drug habit he had, his liberal views, lack of a BMW, and non-carpeted garage. That is what I got from Rip's post.
-
Also add a bad little league coach to that list, Math.
-
allmost all weakness, liberalism and consequent democratic party membership has been linked to having poor math teachers in the students early years.

Too much. Captain Cut n paste does another mindless drive by. If he would have batted .900 as a child in little league, he wouldn't have crashed. Bad parenting caused it.

That is a nicely equiped plane. I bet the maintanance was top notch as well while John owned it. He must have put the casette player in it. I like how something that would not even rate a mention in an auto classifield ad (very old car cassette deck) gets a special mention and its own picture in an aircraft ad. It just shows how anything in an aircraft costs 10 times what it is worth.
Funny how entertainers always get hosed when they buy things. Imagine what that paint job cost. It must have 7 different colours in it. And the final result is something that dose not even look like it is painted in the right direction. Unless it is a special native American motif dealing with eagles I cannot see the relavance of the design to anything that flys.
Nice plane though.

ahhhh you never did acid ;)

I don't like the base color (I hate tan), but the striping is kinda cool.
-
That's not an Indian motif.
Imagine you're on his high 6, then squint a little bit.......
That's Pippi Longstocking!

Thank God(lol) they're all outta print...Sorry if I offended anyone,it's just that I've been listening to the Nick Drake box set lately.

Oops..Just read the facts on his death. For some stupid reason I thought he died flying at night without his night rating...Usually prettty good at remembering air/crash details of celebs.
BTW..Carb icing is what killed rock N' Roll.
-
Yes when I read that accident report I was thinking wow that could have happened to me if I was flying.
I thought Long EZ were impossible to stall though? It sounded like a stall into a spin but I also thought they were impossible to spin as well.

Cool reading. I was on the right track about the fuel selector position. I always wondered why someone would put that switch in the most awkward place possible.
