I was just at the Tillamo/Oregon Air Museum and I saw a beautiful Catalina.
I know its been mentioned before, but I personally believe such an aircraft would make an excellent addition to the AH world. We could use it to drop bombs, torps, or even troops. Best of all it floats on the water so it could be a TG spawnable plane.

Like it at first Blush! Not that I would every fly it. But it would make a great Target for a P-51D (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) It could be a good strategic addition.

Catalina could be used to pick up downed pilots so they could save their perk pts. Course 1/2 would go to the catalina pilot for picking up the downed pilot (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) Could haul drunks too. It's a large plane, I'm sure it was used to carry troops at sometime during the war. But of course we could just stick with C47s, because we know that the only "realistic" way to capture territory is to have the c47 drop troopers on it... ;0

Catalina should be use as a spotter, meaning it's like an Jstar/Awacs, see planes far away liek radar, and can spot fleet at a greater distance than our current vision.

I'm all for it... there are all kinds of uses for it. If they decide to do a SAR kind of utiliztion in the game, maybe we could also get a Kingfisher, or Sunderland, or whatever... (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I like 1776's idea on downed Pilots.. they did that in WWII. A Catalina might bring a fun twist to the sim! I am liking your post HaHa! Hope HTC will give it some thought.

Yup, I think it'd be cool to have something that could be of Multy use. Read, Drop eggs, Torps and Drunks ... (Pick the loadout in the Hangar).

And the payment with 1/2 perkpoints would be the best challenge to try to rescue a downed Pilot.

I'd fly it! Low speed, quite maneuverable, in short the best spotter plane ever made. Plus you could takeoff from ports to go out for a scouting mission to find the enemy CV.

It sounds like a great idea, to make it possible to pick up downed pilots.
I also think it should be used as the ONLY plane to capture ports, you has to land the catalina and taxiing into the port and dock the thing, then you capture the port.
This way it get a not to similar use to the C-47.

Simply set the Catalina to have a lower perk point multiplier than the C47, and you'll still have some flying...

I'd love to see it on here. I don't know if any of you have seen a Cat in the air but I have. It's a cool plane. BIG, nice to look at and sounds great. I live in Washington state in USA. We get forest fires and brush fires and the Cats were used a lot for fire fighting. Last time I seen one was last year. It flew over my house. Probably OTW to an air show. They don't get used as much in fire fighting any more I think because there just wearing out. We need a cat on here. I like the downed pilot idea. Not sure how much it will get used. I still say the more planes the more fun! Dweeby plane or not I want them all on here! I wonder what kinda bribes would help our cause? Ok, we need to form the "Catalina Society". A lobby group established for the bringing of this multi-useful aircraft to AH. We can be a 501c3 organization so as to avoid taxation!! Just think if this plane becomes part of AH we could post at all the Catalina webb sites the fact that a Catalina can be flown by anyone if they sign up for AH!!! Man, oh, man, and there are plenty of sites!!!

Just as a point of interest to NZ pilots. There is a restored catalina that flys around auckland every weekend or three. Several afternoons over the last few months I've been sitting out on the deack and hear that radial thrum as that majestic bird of the sea passes overhead.
I'll chase up the possibility of getting a ride and post the details here.

As long as your thinking about the Catalina, why not consider the small seaplanes used for airborn spotting and scouting, which were launched from battleships and heavy criusers and put the launch platforms and recovery crane in the back of the criuser to use (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

C47 would still be flown if the Cat's were only able to spawn from port or TG.
