The first thing we heard back from the Marines was, ‘holy

It's a cluster bomb, but the submunitions wait until they are over a vehicle and then fire a penetrator straight down. The penetrator can kill anything the enemy's got.

They've been talking about this for 10+ years but I had no idea it was ready for combat.

awesome what you can do with a nickle's worth of copper

Now here's the fun part for the math geeks:
1 weapon = 40 smaller warheads
1 B-1 bomber = 30 weapons (roughly)
1 formation = 2 bombers
Grand total, 2400 individual targets. Bad time to be an enemy convoy, eh?

yeah, these things are available in all kinds of sizes, and are badass. They use combinations of heat, audio and visual sensors to pick out armor and go after them. HEck I think you can even program them in advance to discriminate between armor and light vehicles.
Yeah, send your B1 supersonic and low, kicking those things out, or put 'em in an artillery shell, or a TACMS. They're just not fair.

Dave Chappelle had a hand in the research :D
from funky's 2nd link:
The SFW, a 1,000lb-class weapon, contains our own BLU-108 submuntion and smart Skeet™ warheads.
