Here is an interesting thought.
Apostacy in Islam, i.e., 'the public declaration of rejecting the fundamentals of Islam' is tantamount to treason and is treated very seriously indeed. I understand that the punishment prescribed by the shari'a for apostacy is death.
Now, if a person were to carry out acts which were so fundamentally against the grain of Islamic tenets (such as sawing off a man's head whilst chanting 'God is Great') is there an argument that this person has has so publicly rejected the fundamentals of Islam, that he should be put to death by his own community as an apostate?
You could argue that by carrying out the act, this person has renounced Islam.
I don't know if this argument flies in the corridors of mosques amongst the learned there, but if it does, it would be a very good way to use Islam to prevent such deeds from happening again. All it would take are some respected religious leaders to make this view publicly known.

When it comes to killing infidels, Muslims aren't too quick to judge one another.
-
If we can accept them as "Muslims" in the first place.
Mahomet would have died from shock if he ever knew such crimes were being done in his name in face of Allah.
-
Interesting point Ravs...but I think it is the various mullahs and other religious nutcases that need to answer your question.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the question is posed though...I imagine there would be lots of "umms" and "ahhhs" followed by the sound of pages of the Koran being turned rapidly.

Or he would have at least givin up on "camel love" in protest

I think there'd a long, unending silence from the leading ayatollahs..

Isin't there a document somewhere that suggests that it's really really bad to kill if you're a christian?
Maybe there's an asterik at the end of that line, that denotes "only if you're really angry at someone / Muslims / US senators/ liberals /conservatives/ blacks / whites/gays / jews/ women/men/Jeff Gordon / Ford drivers / canadians/ Yankee fans/....more yankee fans...
I don't believe my lord and savior is all too pleased with our behavior, either...

Maybe not. But our religious leaders don't condon taking sex slaves or shooting pregnant women in the stomach.

You sure (http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_783915.html) about that first bit ra?

But seems to condone taking prisoners, humiliation and torture of them and in worse case killing them.
Not to forget the pedophile priests.
Not too many generations ago we were still burning "witches" and conducting rather violent crusades.
You can also consider Islam today being at least couple hundred years behind western christianity.

Gimme a break. Was this guy giving sermons promoting the taking of sex slaves? This moral-equivalence-at-all-costs is getting tiresome.

Which non-Muslim religious leader condons this?

No...he was just doing it himself. Although I take your point that it was not something he preached for others to do.
Having said that I think that Islamic Imams who preach that the taking of sex slaves and shooting pregnant women is 'good', are seen as crazy extremists amongst mainstream practicioners Islam.

Exactly. Very well said.
BTW, this is exactly what Tatar, Bashkir and other mullahs from Moslim republics in Russian Federation say about Chechen "freedom fighters"...
