Title: Cant Connect; Host times out
Post by: Batz on May 14, 2004, 07:59:15 PM
I was on yesterday (b29) fine. I could tried get on this morning (b29) on Host times out (12 sec then alt route 12 sec time out).

I just dl'd b30 and I still can't connect.

I checked all the obvious (firewall etc..)

I can surf, login to AH1 etc....

Any hints?

Same here. Since beta 28 I have been getting Host Timeouts. I never had a problem before and I haven't done anything to my Dlink router's firewall. I can connect to AHI and all other games with no prob.

Any ideas?

The same here.  I have not been able to get on to AH2 because the host times out.  This has been happening since patch 28.  Thought the problem would be corrected in subsequent patches, but no joy.  Just downloaded patch 29 and 30 and it did not work.  I then removed AH2 and reinstalled the full version of AH2 and get it still times out.

I have a DLink DI-614+ wireless router.  I haven't changed any settings on it. I run no software firewall on my system. AHI and all other games connect fine over the net. Only AHII is giving me the host connect problems. Before beta 28 I was able to connect with all previous betas.

Same here. prior to Patch 28 I had no problems with AHII beta.
I have a dsl connection through SBC and their router is a D-Link DFE-528TX PCI Adapter, which is firewalled via control panel, internet options, etc.   I disabled the firewall and still get host timed out message.

Makes no difference turning the 2 wire moniter off, or disabling anti-virus or running endit all. When it decides to let me on I can be lean and mean or have everything but the kitchen sink running. Only once per fresh boot though ...sometimes :D

23 on a Sunday morning, 43 last night, peoples be comin.

I have had the same problem but it's not consistent. Sometimes I can't log on at all, other times it's taken 13-20 seconds to log on, and other times logs on first try.    Another problem and I don't know what it is for sure yet, is when I do get on line the game will run fine for 45-60 minutes then crash.   Not to desk top but I get a blue screen, sound goes into a continuous loop, and system freezes up.    I suspect that I am loosing host connection, and the game is just freezing up.

This is the first time I've had any trouble with AH2.
Title: Cant Connect; Host times out
Post by: hitech on May 18, 2004, 08:45:04 AM
Im curious also nopoop.
What it has to do with is the code to permit zone alarm to minimize AH. The hole problem stems from an incorect method that zonealarm uses to block access while  it is waiting for your user input.

None full screen apps, are not effect by this problem, because you can still see ZA. To fix this problem I put 1 part of the connect process that ZA intercepts into a different thead. This allows me to minimize AH while ZA is asking for a responce. All I did to get you guys working again was to back out that thread function.

Still have no idea why it works on most machines, but not some. Going to try another aproch to see if I can get both to work.

Post by: nopoop on May 18, 2004, 09:11:38 AM
That's interesting. I don't run zone alarm and configured the remote firewall at SBC to let everything through. Seems the problem mostly effected SBC DSL customers. What's strange is that the problem was only in AH2.

I'll reconfigure the firewall back to allowing TCP again and see what happens.
Title: Cant Connect; Host times out
Post by: TequilaChaser on May 18, 2004, 09:14:11 AM
I use Win98se OS, with  zone alarm installed, everytime I update, and then start the game, after AH2 screen minimizes to let ya check ZA to let it access the net, I have to close AH2 and restart it.

If I try to maximize it after clicking ok for ZA it never comes back up it just sits there blue/greyish screen, this has started since like patch  21 or 22, if I recall correctly was ok before patch 21. Also I am using patch 30 (31 & 32 not installed)

outside of the ZA issue I connect fine and fast to the server.

Didnt fix for me.

Before last patch it would go directly to host timed out without counting seconds. Now it counts seconds off but still cant connect, Then it locks up & I have to cntrl+alt+delete, (AH2 not responding) to close it.
