Title: Big Screen Gaming (I got my new toy)
Post by: Nefarious on May 14, 2004, 10:09:56 PM
Well it finally came....

http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=111115&highlight=Home+Theater

Pictures will follow shortly.

I will be writing a letter to Dr Pepper.

They sent me a Sony 65 inch TV, with a Sony "Dream System" 5 Speaker, 150 Watt Subwoofer, and 5 Disc DVD player.

It's not that I don't like it, but in the Paperwork they sent me they claimed it was a Philips Magnavox system and TV.

Oh Well ;)

But I really want to know is.. I have a Computer with with S-Video Output and a Game Cube, I just wanted to know some info on Big Screen CPU and Console Gaming, I did a search and it didnt really amount to any good info, just wanted to know First hand If there are any Big Screen Gamers here with a few tips...

you have to make sure that your video card will accept multiple monitors and if it does, you should be able to use the S-Video to connect the TV to the computer.  As for the GameCube, I don't know what kind of connectors they have but if they're like the Xbox and can use component video/audio cables, use those.

Im gonna tell you what i "think." You take that cord from yer vid card and put it in the "video in" slot.  Then go down to radioshack tell them you need a cord that will make you able to let your comuter connect to a reciever. (only cause i forgot the name of the cable but they should know) and hook it up to your surround sound reciever.  Then sit down n' enjoy :)

Watched Last Samurai two nights ago...

Man it kicks ass.

I have a lot of DVD's but I'm not really sure what to watch next.

I'm gonna hook my GameCube tonight after I get off work, and try to hook up PC sometime soon.

A friend of mine has his computer hooked up to a professional grade projector (yes the bulbs cost a fortune to replace but this guy doesn't even bat an eye at it).  The screen he projects it on is about 10 ft wide and 6 ft tall.  The quality is amazing.

Only problem is...he can't watch porn on it at all.  It is just awful apparently.  You can clearly see the makeup that the "ladies" use on their genitals (notice the use of that word Check 6 dudes ;) ).

Gaming however is a different story.  He plays BF 1942 on it and having life sized images are intense.  He is much better at the game when he plays it on his big screen too.

I really want to know is if it makes your Video card work harder?

or maybe it hurts the screen, for some reason I've always heard that about Big Screen's. This has probably changed with the progress of Technology though.

Aces High would be insane on it, More Mellow games like SHII and Combat Mission would be awesome with thier awesome Sound Effects.

I played Ah on my work sony projector... The screen was huge and the large images make stuff easier to shoot... The bulbs are expensive but if one is carefull and follows the directions they can last for a year or two... I havent been able to convince work that I need projector at home yet but am working on it!

In 10 years we will all have large HDtv's hooked up playng AH with 60" screens, or large plasma screens...

Nef, the only problem you might run into is screen burn from objects (like the instrument panel) that stay in the same place. If you don't use it constantly as a gaming moniter it should be fine.

Thanks RPM...

I dont plan on using it very much for PC Gaming, It would be a pain the neck moving my Computer around whenever I want a Big Screen Experience.

I'm not sure on the Sony's but a lot of the large plasma screen displays these days have some sort of de-burn feature, might be worth looking into.

wish I had the HD-tv.  I've been running my TV as an optional monitor for a couple years now. just ran the video-out line from the computer to one of the (video 2, I think) input slots on the home theater receiver.

with standard TV resolution it's not great for gaming.  but it is kinda for kicking around the net with the cordless keyboard and mouse.

looking back, I guess I ran all that cable, and screwed around hooking it up so I could downgrade myself from PC to 'net-TV'. :(

oh well.

The problem with hooking your computer to your HDTV is screen resolution.  TV is normally at 640x480 I believe. ATI makes an adapter that you can plug into the DVI port on their cards that will split the signal into the HD composite signal.. This will alow your computer to be displayed in HD. Memory serving correct, it gives you 480p/i  and the 1080p/i... p and  i are progressive and interlaced scans..  Only trouble beyound that is the ability to 'resize' and move your picture on the TV like you can on a computer monitor..  You can use a prog call Powerstrip for that. It works ok I would say.. Not great..

Thanks for the Info Dude. I still havnt got around to hooking it up, although I'm looking forward to it. IL2 will never be the same again i'm sure.

Verm, your more than welcome to come up here, You just can't be allergic to cats. We have a lot of them! Unfortunatley I had to move the other computer, It sat next to the Original TV in that corner, and the network isnt  hooked up right now. So I couldnt blast you out of the sky in AH or TH. ;)
