Title: SKIN: Yak 9T
Post by: airmess on May 15, 2004, 05:38:19 AM
This is the skin of a YAK 9T fown in 1943/44 on the Russian front by the "Normandie-Niemen" regiment. It's quiet close to be finished.

The dots and lines are made with a slight 3D effect this time (finally i've found the way to do it with Photoshop). Hard to see on the screenshot.

Whats your opinion about this "Vodka Fighter"   :-)

Very nice, but are you sure Normandie flew Yak9Ts?

We need yak3 in Normandie colors :)

as far as i've got my informations Normandie flew only Yak 9D, M and T and by the end of war Yak 3's. No Yak 9's.

I wish HiTech would bring in the Yak 3

Nice work Airmess! I was going to do the same skin as my second project lol.

I'm sure you noticed this already, but you have a panel line running through the intake at the wing root.

lada, if you can find some primary sources for your Yak quest, you might have some luck getting the 9U changed. But you could never confuse a 9U with a 9D.

well sikboy check BBS i post million links on Yak-9X resources.

There you will find that our U is much closer to D that real U

Real U had drop tanks and Ordinance and some MD cannon, not SHVaK

D had SHVak 20mm, no ord, only drop tanks and it were long range fighter

U were multiple role airplane.

bah... its all somewhere around BBS i post it last week

I know Lada, I posted in that thread.

But the sources that you posted couldn't even agree with one another in most of the details for the Yak-9U.

For the record, I'm pretty sure that MP-20 IS the ShVAK 20 MM cannon (like refering to the .50 as an "M2") But the big difference between the Yak-9U and Yak-9D is performance. The D is much more comparable to the T that we have than the U, the U is much faster at all alts than the D, although I would expect the D to have longer range.

But this is all academic, the problem with the sources (websites) that you cited, is that they don't mention where they got their information.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'd love to see drop tanks on the Yak (The Yaks are almost all I fly in the MA), but it will never happen without some primary sources, and even then it's a 50/50 chance that the information will be compelling enough for a model change. The Aircraft and Vehicle's forum is littered with posts from people trying to get changes, with varying degrees of documentation, and varying degrees of success.
