68 people on today - lots of micro freezes when you get near people, 2.4 gig machine radeon 9800 pro card lots of ram.
-
These freezes started with beta29.
Whether its just coinciding with mjore people playing the game i dunno.
But there is definitely some sort of connection issue currently to AH2.
I got in ok today but instead of the 3 second delay trying to get out, the counter today reached 9 seconds.
Connected ?
-
Strange, I had no such problems.
-
Same problems here.
running a Ati 9800pro.

Perhaps a compatibility problem with the ATI cards?
-
i have some old Nvidia crap and not freezes but when i close fast to some "NEW" airplane i get lag for 1 sec or so, i think he may be loading some texture
OK Gforce 4MX w/ 128 Mb (not sure may be 64)

same problem here.
Athlon XP 1.8 (1.5 MHz)
512M RAM
GeForce 4 ti 4200 64mb
I also get text-buffer related lag.
-
I have micro freezes when I type, enlarge the cht buffer or use vox.
Of course, I'm on a C64, or close... Cleleron 1.7 w/ Gforce3 :)
(Apart from those micro freezes AHII runs smoother on my comp than AH I ... then again, the map seems to have far less detail/clutter than the user made maps in the MA)
DxDiag (http://www.onpoi.net/ah/DxDiag.rar)

Right-click on the map to select and turn on/off the rest of the 'clutter' as needed. :)
-
I'm not talking about *that* clutter Flossy :)
I'm talking about maps that have a lot of extra buildings in them (mostly CT maps). Not complaining... I know I need to upgrade, it will be done in August :)
-
last week were Saw complaining that AH1 is pretty laggy on his Z-80

I have been seeing micro-freezes when running the Beta 30 (and earlier) of AH2 offline. My system is fairly capable:
Dell Dimension 8300
Pentium 4 3GHz
256MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800 XT
512 MB RAM
Windows XP
DirectX 9.0b
-
Same probs here,I got a gig of ram 2.2P4 Intel with a Creative 128Mb FX5200 Ultra card, other than the micro freezes I get good Fps,no other real problems.
-
When I CAN get on ( see another thread ) it runs as smooth as glass. The preload of planes that was added a release or two ago took care of freezes I was having.
I have graphic details set to max except for ground detail that's backed off to about 2 miles. Running an average of 84fps out flying regardless of traffic, clutter, etc.
Epox INTEL865 EP-4PDA2+
800 FBS Hypertheading
INTEL P4/3.0GHz CPU

The preload of planes only covers the basic plane textures. That was done up front to alleviate a lot of the stutters that will happen when the texture cache is generated. There are still other textures from the terrain and custom skins that can generate a stutter the first time you encounter them. After that, you shouldn't have a problem.
Would the stutters seen here be consistent with coming across a new custom skin on another plane for the first time?
-
Pyro,
The stutters you refer to I have experienced and they lessen in frequency the more I play.
The problem that I get are some stutters when I type. I don't remember noticing them in prior betas.
If needed, I can post my dxdiag.
-
I also see framerate hiccoughs with typing. I remember noticing back when I started doing H2H that typing really messes with the network status lines, host queue, etc, so maybe there's something goofy going on when typing in the text buffer.

Could be - yesterday was my first time online with a large group - some of whom had obviously downloaded the skins.
Today the micro freezes were far less frequent though I had fiddled with the settings somewhat.
Will we experience the freezes you describe each time we log on or only the first time we come in range of a new skin?
-
Same problem, albeit rather minor. Running ATI 9600XT with plenty of RAM.
Freeze ups last only a fraction of a second, does effect gunnery tho. Getting 60+ fps otherwise.
My regards,
Widewing

I've found a workaround for microfreezes, but you need at least 768M of ram to do it.
Download Ramdisk XP and install it, create a 400M ramdrive and install AH2 in the ramdrive, textures will cache so fast you wont get a freezeup.
-
I would say that the stutters for me are consistent when encountering a new plane, yes. Today I experience quite a severe pause when I came across a formation of B17's. THe longer you play the less they seem to appear so I would guess it comes from the initial meeting of a "new" plane type.
-
I had them all the time today. For about 3 hours. If alone or in furball...no difference.

Same problem here. Usually when I flew near another plane.
Someone said that the micro freezes don't affect gunnery--well, they did for me. By the time it unfroze, the plane was out of my sights. If that's what we have to put up with, screw custom skins.
I also experienced the typing lag--especially if I held backspace to get rid of a string of text.

I was having the same problem for a day or two. I did two things and one of them stopped the freezes.
I downloaded ATI's 4.5 driver for my 9800 xt
then I downloaded DirectX 9.0b
Now I will point out that this worked for me but I see alot of people do not have ATI cards.

Same problem. They are not consistent though - irregular 'intervals' of studdering. The same plane is causing a studder regardless of hte skin being cached or not.
1.2ghz athlon

ditto on micro freezes..
Athlon 1800+
ATI 9700 Pro
1.0Gb ram
XP SP1.

Yep, same here! I too had not seen this until Beta 29. My Specs:
1.8 GHz ABIT TH7-II MoBo, Intel 850 Chipset
512 M RDRAM 400 FSB
ATI Radeon 9600XT with Omega CAT 4.2 drivers
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Sound Card, TBSC-4193 drivers

Cable 1.5M/200kbs
CH HOTAS and Pedals all USB
XP Pro SP-1a
DX-9.0b

the stutters to me dont seam to always be terrain/plane/object cache related
Ive flown enough on firball isle that they should have stopped by now.
Im still getting them everynow and then . And yes they freeze the game up enough that the other plane is gone over 1k + of distance
-
Stutters/micro freezes here too......
ATI9800 pro 128
Happens when i get close. Keep getting p51d skin arrivals too?!?! Last one was number 5.
Noticed distance readout seem to jump in .5 increments on anything over 1k.
-
Micro freezes here as well. On two seperate occassions while flying a B17 over the ocean I was attacked from the rear by a single plane. D1.5 freeze, D1000 freeze, D400 freeze. Makes gunnery difficult. Was getting 85fps at time of attack but didn't watch for changes.
Settings:
1280x1024x32bit
AA x 4
AF x 2
Maximum Quality
Maximum Detail
Maximum Distance

Not getting any of this on my system anymore (did with first beta) - however I have been downloadings and playing beta's since the very first one so I supposed I have already cached everything.
For me the game is perfectly smooth. Not a high end system by any means and no custom settings of any sort - not even custom gunsights.
1.333 Athlon Thuderbird (not OC'd anymore)
256 meg ram
geforce 2 64 meg video card running latest driver.
latest updates to otherstuff etc etc.
Win XP Pro - patched up to date
P.S. (I also defrag weekly and sweep the system at least that often for anything odd (virus, spyware, etc,) that might be running in the background as part of normal housekeeping.)
P.P.S. (ZoneAlarm Pro is running in background but no antivirus task running during game)

Ok here's what I did that helped. I took off from the SE corner and flew to the NW. Just got up at 15K and walked away for 1 1/2 hours. Came back, relogged, smooth as silk!
Haven't tried it today, yet. Work. Sure seemed to help last night. There was 43 pilots on when I started this. I had been on long enough to download all skins. Seems I needed this extra time to smooth it out. I will up date this as I fly tonight.
Regards,
