The best athlete Philadelphia has had in 25 years is a horse....
:D
-
A Canadian horse.....
-
Huh? Bred and born in Pennsylvania.
-
Canadian rider...
Boy can that horse run! I love the story, the accident when it was young, almost blind in one eye, man do I hope that horse wins at Belmont. If anything could put a cherry on top of this story, a triple crown would do it, maybe take our minds off all the other crap goin down as well....even if just for a short while.
Wonder what it's gunna odd out at, was 3-5 today

Ahh, that's what he was thinking. For the city boys, the horse is the one on the bottom.
It was an impressive win -- doesn't look like he will have any problems going another 5/16. Just hope he can stay healthy.

I had a client over for drinks last night. All he wanted to do was watch some horse race called the Preakness (sp?). His friend owned one of the horses, Chappy something or other.
Turns out it was this horse...Smarty Jones.
Great race. Smarty Jones won by a huge margin.
-
Right after the first turn Elliott had a chance to take him inside and passed it up. I guess he knew right there it wasn't necessary. If he had, the winning magin would have been more than 11 1/2.

See the hand size on that #10? Jeeeez, not only didn't it want to load into the starting gate, but I was wonderin if it'd even fit! hehe.
..btw , I know the name of #10, just that I ain't gunna say it on this board, I'll be wide open for the innevitable one liners!!lol. I almost wrote...'see the size of _______#10',( that woulda been funny.hehe.)
Curval, it's owned by Someday Farms, Roy Chapman and I think some others , Staub, or something like that? Not sure tho.

I have a snake!

Gun,
What is his time at six furlongs?? I think there are some races at five if he's a 'sprinter' :)

Yea, I thought it was his first name because that is what this guy called him...Chappy. Short for Chapman I guess. I suppose he is just one of the owners.

That additional 5/16 gonna be fun when Rock Hard Ten gets going. Those big legs cover a lot of ground, and looked like he had plenty in the tank at the finish.
Man, what a great race!! Smarty just hit the "on" switch midway through the turn.
Can't wait for Belmont!
-
Think Im gonna put some money down next go round.
Went to college with one of the skirts that takes care of the lumbering beast.
-
Smarty to Win
Rock hard ten to Place
Lion Heart....to show (yeah, betting with my heart here...)
11 lengths a LOT of room to cover in 5/16
-
Smarty would have to fall asleep to lose such a length lead in only a 5/16th extra.
...only thing to worry bout is the fact that #10 ran sideways for the first turn, still not over it's loading problems, and came to the inside rail from 3 slots out in the last turn. If Smarty don't get the slot quick enough, and that beast runs inside down the stretch, could be somethin to see.
-
might be an advantage for the monster to run a little wide, get those legs streched out...but if smarty turns on the gas like he did last week, all this talk aint gonna amount to a hill o beans :)
-
Saur,
As long as you don't bet your lifesavings you should do OK. But, remember, the 'smart' money will not be on 'Smarty'. The reason for that is most likely the odds on him will be so unfavorable that you'll be wagering $2.00 to win .10 cents. A lot of gamblers will see all that money in the pool and bet on another horse knowing that a 'bump' at the start, a thrown shoe, a 'clip', a 'block' and much more, will put him out of the race.
Mind you, I think he's going to win ;) But it's a statistical fact, that over a season at any track, 'favorite's do not win enough times to 'cover' their odds.
My strategy is:
1) A fast horse (Beyer Speed Ratings)
2) He wants to win (His position in the last three races improves)
3) At least 3:1 odds.
Smarty has a 'lock' on the first two but he'll never come close to the third :)
Good luck, and have fun.
