Title: Real pilots. a ?
Post by: easymo on October 05, 2000, 01:29:00 PM
Awile back There was a thread about the trim tabs not being control serfaces. It was interesting to me, not being a pilot myself.

Then we got 1.04. This seems way to easy to me. I've had 15 kill sorti,s for christ sake. And no, im not braggin. Im complaining. My question is this. Is this a more accurate FM then the old one? Where these things really that easy to fight in?

All I know is that I've never accelerated in a 4g turn before.  That's all  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

No.

There was a lot of strength required.

There was a lot of G stress.

There was a lot of cold.

There was a lot of heat.

There was a lot of turbulance.

There was not a lot of space.

There was a lot of vibrations.

There was a lot of noise.

There was a lot of fear.

I'm sure I missed quite a few opvious and quite a few not so obvious factors that made it hard.
Lets see, well, I can get a lot of noise, but thats about it.

Try the horrible smell in the cockpit.

Even with oxygen masks on, single engine fighters had a bad tendency to get the gas/oil fumes in there.

Lots of P-51 and Typhoon pilots complained about it, and given the carbon monoxide levels that could accumulate in the Typhoon it's a good thing they had a secondary oxygen source.

I've read in a few cases where the P-51 pilots would throw the canopy back on the way back over the channel (and one case of a guy who smoked a pipe!) in the D model.

You could have your wife stand behind you and WAP you back and forth in the head with a rolled up newspaper while you are trying to fly... that would simulate severe turbulance wouldn't it?

You could also sit on an electric shaver and wear a surgeon's mask drizzled with used motor oil to simulate sitting behind an aircraft engine, couldn't ya?

That would be pretty realistic if you think about it  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
