Title: A request
Post by: thrila on May 16, 2004, 02:40:16 PM
Could we have a dot command to highlight a base. It takes me forever to find a base on large maps when someone aks for help .  This would really help.:)

That works very well if they give a friendly base number. But when someone calls out for help at an enemy base, you'll never get there. :)

So let me get this straight...

You're too lazy to spend 10 seconds to look for a base on a map so you want the AH2 team to spend 48 hours coding in a command so that it'll highlight the base for you?

Perhaps you shouldn't make assumptions.

It's not called laziness, it's called frustration.  If i was lazy i wouldn't even bother looking for the base.  But i do and i get frustrated because i can't find it.

And how do you know the length of time  it takes to code a dot command?  I'm guessing you don't.

As a workaround I usually do a .wingman on the guy requesting help.

Some time ago, I did some grids for the small maps to help find fields - similar to this one for SFMA (http://www.flos.clara.net/storage/sfma.htm).  However, they are out-of-date now, so I have been thinking of updating them, and also doing ones for the big maps.  Might be an idea to wait until AH2 is live though before I do.  :)

Devils advocate, on a map like AKDesert, it often takes quite a bit longer then 10 seconds to find a base based off number.  I remember times where I needed to spend upwards of a minute before finding a base, and no, I'm not blind.

hmmm, .field ##. Highlights the numbered field. With the big maps and 200+ fields...I like it :).

I think he was speccing out how the feature would look, an intuitive command, etc.

If I can't locate the field I bring up the roster, highlight the person and then use the 'move to' command which will take me to the base he took off from.  Hopefully this will be close to where he's asking for help.

I agree though that a highlight command would be a very useful feature, especially on the very large maps.

It would help if the person asking for the help would give the map coordinates. ;)

Im pretty sure the time it takes to find a base on Pizza is longer than the time it would take to code a dot command.:aok
