Title: Perk plane idea
Post by: -duma- on November 18, 2000, 07:24:00 AM
How about trading in perk points for field modifications to non-perk plane aircraft? These probably wouldn't require changes to the 3D model, just the loadout options (as the 190 is done at the moment). Just struck me as a nice extra idea.

That's probably one of the best ideas I've heard in a while   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)  It'd add some interesting suprises too as you engage a plane that has qualities you normally wouldn't expect.

Hmmm the idea has potential..   However  what about AC that in RL may not have had any field mods...  I think we'd end up having to add "fantasy" mods to some of the AC.

The majority of field mods i'd imagine would improve A-G abilities as well... and detract from A-A with the exception of boost systems and removing guns..

Skurj:

You'd just wouldnt be able to add modifications to planes that didnt had them; they wouldnt appear in the loadout screen.

I love the idea. Pyro should read this; it has much potential.

Nails in the gun mounts, high octane gas with a bit of rotgut-rye, and a hack saw for those pesky non-load supporting window frames.

Woohoo!

Hi Duma

I mentioned to HiTech a similar thing to this two or three months ago and he said "oh, I haven't thought of that".  My actual question was for a 20mm rear cannon field modification for the B17 as one of the 'perk' planes (not that I'd ever trade any perk points for a 20mm equipped B17, but it was done in RL).  It would be cool if you could incorporate many more field modifications and you'd stand more of a chance of not being hunted down because you'd look 'fairly normal'    (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Well... The whole perk idea is custom made for animosity in my opinion and the field mods are even worse.

Right now people attribute FM quirks to one plane or the other that give it an unfair advantage.   Imagine when they really do have these advantages.   There aren't enough fights in AH as it is without screwing up the  ones we do have.   I don't want to fight a perk plane and I don't want to fly one against anyone who doesn't have one.    Win or lose... I don't want it to be by a cheat.

How about a new equality idea. If you pay for the service you get to fly any plane in the game whenever you want to. For $29.95 it's the same for all. The $29.95 is the real perk here to get the complete plane set.

A perk plane whine, a B-29 lobby, a pricing issue... call the hijack police!  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I'd just like to steal a few M2 50's and Hispanos and sneak them aboard my Zeke  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

"A perk plane whine, a B-29 lobby, a pricing issue... call the hijack police!"

Actually... all those things speak to your thread.   The "whine" explains why it wouldn't be a good idea.   The B29 and price issue do also... just in different ways.   I believe the 75mm cannon on the zeke does too.   With the desperate "will try anything" attitude of the axis... imagine the goofy perk mods available to them and how badly people not having those mods would react.

No, I don't think it does. Very few field modifications changed performance that significantly; most were just the removal of guns for increased turn & speed performance etc, or altering a plane for a different role. Rarer field modifications could require more perk points; heck, with the current LW situation in AH I'd let them have something to even the balance a little.

And I'm talking about field modifications that were really fitted in real life, not fantasy configurations. I somewhat doubt a 75mm cannon could be used effectively on a zeke - what, would it be belt fed?  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
