I wonder if the number of players that can't/haven't upgraded to the AH2 system specs < or > cancelled accounts that are awaiting AH2 to resubscribe?
-
what are your system specs, and have you updated your directx? That is easy to do with windows update.
-
You guys are mean. :p
Jet, I believe it'll stay up for a while as AH classic (At least I think I heard something along those lines)
-
a gf2 costs less than $50 bucks...thats less than 10 hours of work or 2 5 hour shifts at mcdonalds...or you could find out where no good teens party and at around noon saturday go collect there empty beer bottles...or you could mow old peoples lawns...

No, AH1 is dead when AH2 comes out. AH Classic is the current MA style of gameplay, but with the AH2 game engine.

I don't know about that.
Word was that once AH II goes live ... AH I goes on the shelf.
AH II as we see it now will be called AH II : Classic ... once the Tour of Duty Engine is finished and released, there will be 2 arenas.
AH II : Classic <--- what we now call the Main Arena
and
AH II : Tour of Duty

I'm telling you HiTech you should delay a little a longer. You will lose lots of customers. LOSING MONEY you should have the two running together for at least 3 months or so. When you start to lose money you may start to charge more and then there is another handful of people you lose. Please take my advice HiTech
-
I may be wrong, but playing with the detail slide bars you can run AH2 even smoother than AH1.
-
you are right GODO

Have ya ever thought about HTC losing money and customers because there ISNT a new update? People change and, after a while, get bored of the same old thing. They may move on to other games because AH is just the same old thing.
Try looking at it from 2 aspects. I personally would like to see AHI out a little longer, but I dont mind HTC doing their job either. :D

Your young, you have parents. Sponge off them!:D

I found the easiest way to get PC parts is:
Working and earning money

Yeah that works too, but doesn't stop you from sponging off your parents:)

I'm still confused. What are your system specs now? Someone asked this earlier, and you never answered them. From what I understand unless you are really draggin, you should be able to play without too much problem.
-
Wow...
AH2 system specs were released a year ago. It was originally intended for general release in November of 2003. That date was pushed back.
As Roscoroo said, you have had ample time to prepare for this update. I have a little phrase for this very scenario:
A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Your complaints about being young are irrelevant. You are capable of earning money.
As to the original poster's comments about getting all "As and Bs in high school," I can only comment on what a sad state our educational system must be in. Maintaining a 3.0 or greater GPA with the complete lack of sentence construction skills combined with the inability to spell even the simplest words demonstrated in his posts either means a) he's lying or b) the school he goes to doesn't actually educate the students.
All members of HTC have at one point or another stated what will happen upon the release of AH2. Use the search feature. Let me paraphrase:
AH2 will completely replace AH1. They will not run in conjunction with each other.
Any questions?

Why you got to talk about jet. Sometimes i like to be lazy and type just like he did. I also want to say that people today in school does learn. I know jet can spell, he was probally just lazy like i like to be sometimes
-
I also want to say that people today in school does learn.
-
Lazy or dumb is not an excuse if you want to be taken seriously.
-
It's a messageboard not a research paper. I also want to say we do learn in school. Happy, I typed the sentence right.
-
It's a messageboard not a research paper. I also want to say we do learn in school. Happy, I typed the sentence right.
Corrected:
"It's a message board, not a research paper. We do learn in school. Are you happy now that my views are written correctly?"
The point is that you are communicating on a public forum. You are asking to be taken seriously, yet you cannot take the time to effectively express your ideas.
I applaud you for making the effort to correct yourself after some mistakes in your grammar were pointed out. Keep in mind a few things when writing:
1) Never write, "I say," or any derivation thereof. You don't "say" anything, you are writing.
2) You don't need to tell me, "I want to point out." Of course you're pointing it out, you're the one writing it.
-
This post is an example of how your posting style directly affects how people perceive you. This post is pedantic and stuck-up so even though it presents valid points, it will virtually force the reader to conclude that I'm an anal netcop bastage.
The point to using proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation in internet messages, including both email and public forums, is that you will not be taken seriously if readers cringe while reading the message. It is often accepted that messages intended for certain peer groups can typically use the conventions of that group, including a total lack of any punctuation, capitalization, or other alternate spelling/grammar conventions without consequence. It should be kept in mind however that "textbook" grammar and spelling has evolved over many centuries with the specific intent of making written communication easy to read and understand, so intentional or unintentional deviations from those standards will result in the message being difficult and/or somewhat painful for the average person to read and understand regardless of education level.
Irregardless of the reader's interpretation of the writer's level of education or appropriateness of style, spelling and grammar irregularities that are consistently applied throughout an entire message will present a clear barrier to communication.
No, I am not a netcop. If people want to post messages and present their opinions without regard to common spelling and grammar rules, they should feel quite free to do so. They ought to understand however that the manner in which they present themselves will have a direct impact on how they and their points of view are perceived, and in many internet communities, intentional or unintentional spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors are perceived as a sign of a lack of education, lack of intelligence, or lack of attention to detail. That perception can be overcome but the writer is "playing catch-up" from the beginning and earning respect will be more difficult because readers may not take the writer seriously.
Hitech's posts are another example of this phenomenon - He is quite obviously a smart person and he has a great deal of respect from the community, but even after approximately a decade spent developing a fine online simulation, people still give him grief over his spelling. It doesn't bother him and it doesn't bother most people who know him, but it may present a less than favorable first impression to those who do not know him and who are introduced to him via his posts in public forums.
See, wasn't that arrogant and annoying? Carelessness in spelling, grammar, and punctuation is just as annoying to a great number of internet users.
:D

Irregardless
Is "Irregardless" a word? If so how does it differ from regardless?
.....:)
Kev
-
Orig, I have only one negative comment on your post.
Irregardless is NOT A WORD.
Other than that small detail, you very eloquently described what I summarized in my reply to jay1988.
Kevykev56 beat me to it.
-
Kevykev,
It's a real word but to be honest, I included it to make the post sound more pompous and arrogant. In addition, I'd just used the word "regardless" in a previous sentence and repeated use of words like "regardless" and "however" can hint at a limited vocabulary, lack of creativity, or limited writing experience. As the dictionary.com entry quoted below shows, it is an Americanism and not a precise use of the language. I guess some people use it when trying to sound smart even though it's not correct. I don't have an OED handy but even the OED has taken a liberal slant regarding local usage in the last few decades. I have read that some scholars won't use some of the more popular dictionaries in their recent updated editions due to their more liberal inclusion of "made-up" words.
I thought about rewording that sentence or the preceding one, but finally decided to keep the word in there to help make the point. I'm glad someone else caught it :aok
From http://www.dictionary.com:
ir·re·gard·less ( P ) Pronunciation Key (r-gärdls)
adv. Nonstandard
Regardless.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Probably blend of irrespective, and regardless.]
Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.

I are a colluge Graduate
-
Apparently words like gaydar will be in a future revision of the OED.
-
Orig,
I couldn't agree with you more! I was just busting your chops after such an eloquently written post. I don't attempt to be an English professor my grammar is porked. A friend of mine pointed out to me a few years back that irregardless wasn’t a word and it stuck with me. If not for my buddy I would not even have noticed.

Kevykev, I couldn't possibly take anything anyone writes in this thread personally because, well, I started it ;) Since this is quite beyond off-topic, this will be my last post in this thread and hopefully I don't get skuzzified
A lot of people my age were in the last few years of high school when the "ebonics" crisis hit our public schools. Some schools were formally recognizing badly malformed English and street slang as a unique "creative" language that was just as academically acceptable as normal English, and this had a huge backlash among students who actually gave a crap about learning and formal education. It hit my school particularly hard because my school was a Southern California "Magnet" school, a school in a lower income neighborhood that was given hiring and budgetary preference in order to attract superb teachers and a more diverse student population. The school was very successful in San Diego and the students took some pride in actually learning, so when the ebonics stories hit the newspapers a lot of students took it as a personal attack against their legitimate efforts at gaining a superior education. It was the literary equivalent to awarding half or full credit for stating that 2+2 = 5 simply because "you're special and we don't want being wrong or ignorant to affect your self esteem." Educators in this country seem to have lost sight of the fact that ignorance does NOT equal stupidity, and ignorance is usually a correctable situation if a teacher is willing and able to draw the line between right and wrong, fact and fiction, and positively present the right information to a student.
So a lot of grammar nazis were born in a short period of time. I try not to criticize but I must admit that I cringe when I read articles and messages that misuse language and make common errors. Extremely common and simple mistakes like their/there/they're, and one I recently saw in an otherwise excellent computer review, "shear" instead of "sheer", are all over the place and they detract from otherwise excellent writing in a blatantly obvious fashion.
I usually only give in to the urge to write the editor when it's a source like CNN that makes the error :) You'd think they could hire an editor who is both educated and picky enough to catch such things.

You're in high school and no job? Hmmmm. Here's an idea, try a job search before school lets out. Maybe a local restaurant, McDonalds, grocery store....
Chances are, $200 will get you up and running in AH2 by way of a vid card upgrade and more memory.

jetb123 ...
If you want help and want to be taken seriously, then you must enter your post so that it can be understood. Being a BB, doesn't excuse the need to be understood. Correct grammar and good sentence structure are key to reading and comprehension.
I look at your post and get about half-way thru a sentence and my mind goes wacko. At that point, I just stop and go onto the next post (skipping yours). I had all I could do to finish reading this one post.
My mind, and alot of others, I believe, are not wired to interpret your style of writing, and when trying to read it, its easier to just SKIP it then to try and figure out what the hell your trying to say. It's pure babble and I don't read or pay attention to babble and I am sure alot of others dont too.
What is this stuff anyways ... "Web-bonics" ?
I have seen numerous post by you lately trying to get help and information for your video upgrade. Are you not surprised at the lack of responses that you have gotten ? I'm not.
Just a friendly suggestion ... Make an effort to be understood !!! You will be *surprised at the results.

irregardless
Main Entry: ir·re·gard·less
Pronunciation: "ir-i-'gärd-les
Function: adverb
Etymology: probably blend of irrespective and regardless
nonstandard : REGARDLESS
usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.
