Well E3 2004 is over. A year later and countless delays, the head guy at Valve says "This summer" for the release.
There's an interview here: http://www.halflifesource.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=2774
It's going to be a great game no doubt, but it's going to be at the tail end of the "next generation" game engines. FarCry, Deus Ex (not really 'neg gen'), and others are already here. The 'wow' will be lessened quite a bit imo.
... still have that coupon for a free game in my 9600xt box.

It will be out right after Duke Nukem Forever and Aces High 2.

As a side note for the E3, I sent two employees to have a complete coverage and they met Elijah Wood, who was there not to present a game, but as a gamer :)
Turns out he was quite accessible and they had pictures of them taken as well as autographs.
Just don't ask him about his ring... :D

No playable demo of HL2 at E3.... I find that really sad...
-
I remember seeing the HL2 video, quite impressive.
that being said, I just finished playin Far Cry .... "wow!"
-
can someone explain to me how is Far Cry revolutionary ?
I played it, it's a nice game, nice graphics and all, but overall how is it a huge step forward ?
Main thing in HL2 that sounds like its worth waiting for me is physics engine and ability to destroy objects like walls and such ( aka - blow your way though the map with a bazooka) :)
Far cry doesn't offer that if I remember correctly.
That being said, Valve really screwed the pooch on HL2.

Revolutianary is a strong word...
I guess its the combination of Great graphics, great AI and the damage modelling (how the enemy tumbles and falls when they get shot....)
