I just started AH1 again a few weeks back and see very few of you online.
How many of you are going to come back for AH2?
It is fairly different from the original, gunnery seems harder, I have not had one HO tonight.
They may set fuel consumtion higher to force engine managment.
The flight model feels much better, and landing and taking of is harder.
So sound off if you

I thought AH1 was gone as of release of 2?
I am thinking about sticking with the Beta only for now.
I think going back to AH1 will prevent you from getting fully used to AH2 as quick.

It's still in beta Gto but there are enough people online - 68 is the highest I've seen over the weekend - to make it a lot worth while.
I tried it for an hour and am hooked, flight model, gunnery are a whole new ball game. I far prefer Ah2 to Ah1 and since the Beta is about to end as per Pyro's post I've decided to only play Ah2 from now on.
Very few HO's, got to get close to hit anything - like 250 yds close, lots of stalls, higher fuel burn - seemed like the Niks have been defanged, not sure about spits - it's a lot of fun.

I don't know. It will be hard to choose between duke nukem forever half life 2 or ah2.

I agree, the flight model seems more, "right", but I can not put my finger on just one thing.
Gunnery is harder, but not Hugely so, but no HO seem way to have gone away.
I am having trouble getting kills, do to the gunnery, but I am also jumping around and their seem to be FEW easy kills (IE someone in a furball not watching) so the few I got were all real ACM kills.
The higher fuel consumption is going to send planes like the LA7 packin.
The ground model is brutal, taking some of the planes like the Mark 14 spit off is hard! lol
I like that engine managment will now be a factor, though I did this sometimes in the MA, if I needed to go somewere else if a fight evaperated.
It is pretty and runs better then AH1 on my system for some reason.
I am pretty excited, the only low for me is I do not like the current map much.

Are they going ahead with all the mission-based stuff in the arena? I will definitely give it a whirl when they put that stuff in.

FPS literally make me nausious.
Racing games... well... I can't seem to avoid crashing into other cars.
That leaves flight sims. But that's okay... Other than for work, it's been about the only reason I've ever bought computers. I was hooked the first time I flew a white dot over a grid.
That being said, what beats AH for flight sims? Nothin'. (F4 and IL2 are great, but I need online).
Fer sure I'll be flying AH2.

Dont quote me on this, but I think the beta arena is open to everyone now; not just subscribers... I can't tell as I'm still subscribed.
I'm having a great time in the beta right now, and like Schaden, last night I actually didn't enjoy AH1 - AH2 is the way to go :)

If there's #s in the arena, I only fly AHII now...15 or so is sufficient. I'm still trying to tweak around my video settings to find the happy medium between performance and quality. This last build has introduced some studdering on my FE, but I've got some more investigating to do before reporting it. I definitely like it. The flight model is different...I don't know if it's better or worse, but I like it just fine. Pulling out of a dive is definitely different, and there are plenty of craters with my name on them to prove it. I really like the look of it.
They have the old-style easy cheesey bomb site enabled in the AHII arena to help bomb testing. I've been playing around with it, and I've gotta say, I miss it and like it a lot better than the new way.

SOB the studdering is happening to a lot of us. There are two threads in the AHII Bug forum on it - many reporting the same thing across a variety of systems.
ditto on the bombsight. If it were to remain enabled (the former easy mode), maybe it would cut back on some of hte suicide dive bombing lanc dweebery?

I seem to have almost no stuttering and when I do it is when I am flying near an oddball plane and it goes away. I think for me it is the textures.
I love the trees, lol nothing like getting down on the deck and flying between tree patches.
Do the branches stop ACK rounds?

not only do the branches stop ack rounds while u are behind trees and some bushes the ack dont even fire cause it canna see ya

Haven't been playing AH1 since November last year and only this tour had more then a couple flights. Will be getting back into it from now on though and definetly when AH2 is out.

Is it just me, or is any body else not particularly impressed by the graphics in AHII, in so much as it's not much of a jump from AHI ?

So has anyone got any opinion on the Niks - I think accelleration has changed - they don't seem to be able to instantly be on yr six after a reversal - same for Spits, only seen 14's so far no 9's.
It could however be that they do have the same accelleration except that now someone 600 yards on yr six just isn't all that dangerous during acm anymore.

Nope it's not just you, i was very dissapointed with the first beta's and current beta's aren't all that much approved was expecting alot more in the graphics department.
Luckly the gameplay and FM makes up for it.

Because I really dont see anything that much different than AH1.
The cockpit of the a6mb looks exactly the same to me.
And I am running a high end system
P4 2.4 OC to 3.0 Ati 9800pro
512 muskin lvl 2 ram

So I dont think its the machine.
I mean I am running it at 1600x1200 res and all but the graphics just dont really look that much if any better than AH1.
I mean yeah ya get some oils streaks and blood spots ok thats nice.
But what about more of a 3D immerssion into the cockpit?
And FPS I am getting around 75 witch is more than playable but heck I get 80-140 in IL2 FB and i think Its safe to say Its a bit of a graphics hog.
So I know all of the fan boys will be warming up there little flaming fingers for this one but I just call it as I see fellers.
AH Is still the best massive multiplayer online flight sim out there hands down.
But Is this really what we have been waiting for ?

Those of you disappointed in the graphics - what video cards do you have? Radeon 9600 here, and I feel that the AH2 graphics are sharper and have richer colours. However, as WB3 proved, eye candy does alone not a great flightsim make.
Great to hear that the HO are getting less. The gunnery is only harder in that you have to be closer, which is as it should be - so no more 800yd spray shots. That's going to piss a few people off.
Flight model is better, smoother.
All in all, I'm hopeful AH2 will be less "gamey". Of course, we'll still see the uber trio P51/spit/LA7 more than anything else...
...which answers Funked's question: No, the TOD stuff is not destined to be in the next release.

Oh, and those "pull-up-vertical-like-a-helicopter-and-spray-the-plane-800-yards-above" tactics aren't going to work either. The N1K dweebs won't like that. :lol

I will return when i have a windows box that has the power to run it. my guess is sometime late this summer. There are only a coupe of items left on my Mac purchase list before i get the remaining parts for the AH2 puter.
looking forward to seeing some of you amateurs up high again ! :)

Something changed one hit from an Mg151 knocked a typhs wing off last night at d400. Didnt get much else done in the 20 minutes I had online because only place that had fight in 5 min flight also had some tard in a 163.

After being unimpressed with the early betas, I've been sitting on the side lines waiting for the final release before I pass judgement.
Actually, I'm starting to like what I hear about the enhanced engine management, more challenging ground and flight modelling, and the elimination of the 1000 yd kills.
Pretty graphics are nice, but the crucial elements of any sim are the physics and the gameplay. If AH2 concentrates on the latter two, it will attract many of the old WB/AW crowd, and possibly bring back all the old jaded AH'ers.

I gotta go shopping for a video card. I'm looking at the ATI Radeon 9600 as a budget/performance value, now that the 9800 is out. I'm working with a 1-point-something gigaherz P4 and the new vid card would be replacing a nVidea GEForce2 MX 32Mb card that came with the system.
Any thoughts?

Waiting for AH2. I fly the beta occasionally but haven't been in the MA in 6 months. I am still miffed about the difficulty those of us without rudder pedals seem to have taking off in the beta.
Every time I fly a sortie in WW2OL I crave AH2 even more. :D

im still trying to fix the blasted directx9a / directx9b problem. i can download and install the 9b but it still shows 9a on the menu. ouch, my head!!:mad:

I have been enjoying the beta. The fights seem to last alot longer, as a killing blow requires at least a little more effort than AH1.
...as to the IL2 graphics. Who cares? An eyball on an arthritic stick is just assinine.

C. When TOD arrives
To me AH-II is AH-I with some prettier dressing. Same old omniscient AWACs radar, aircraft/engine managment remains minimal & simplistic and HTC continues to employ what is essentially the same old icon system ala 1995 (in spite of stepped range icons and that they show below the aircaft now). IMO there's nothing substantially new (edited to acknowledge that being able to create "skins" is a new, major feature I missed). Most particularly when it comes to gameplay. Still have to endure pork&auger dorks and the lowest of the skilled can still use a 4 engined, heavy bomber to dive bomb with.
Of course HTC could have a smorgasbord of great, new stuff to implement in AH-II. However thier lack of development updates over the last year and a half has left us in the dark.
When AH-I came out it was leaps beyond AW, FA and WB's with new features, user selectable options, powerful but simple GUI and rock solid stability.

(note: not one complaint about FM or gunnery. Lame "BIGPORK" gameplay being grandfathered over and a lack of major innovation or new features are the root of AH-II's lack of appeal to me )

I went with an ATI 9600 XT as a bang-for-buck performer. Placed the order this morning ($176 at ProVantage.Com), should be here next 3 or 4 days, then a couple of days to get around to installing it, so really, I won't be AH2-capable until sometime late next week.

I tried to play AH1 with an ATI 9600 card and could not make it work. I will try AH2 with my new system and my ATI 9800 card when it goes gold.
I am tired of playing BETA games. In the old days I liked to play them because they were free and I wanted to get a jump on the masses. Now I prefer to wait for the finished product as I cannot tolerate system crashes and exploitable bugs.

Habu I use a 9600xt. What are the rest of your specs? It should run like diarrhea on that card :)

Could someone please list what the features of the new engine management system are? Do we get working RPM adjustment? Prop pitch adjustment?
Any engine overheating damage?

I had an AMD motherboard and my whole system would lock up when I tried to play.
I also started to have major system crashes while flying in WWIIOL. I tried everything from getting XP and new memory and finally the new graphics card.
Finally I pulled the motherboard and put in an Intel one. Now the system is rock stable. I had another system in the office (my old gaming systems end up in my office after about a year or so) and it used to hiccup all the time and lockup the network. Finally I did the same thing to it and now have no problems.
AMD plus ATI did not seem to work at all for me.

Those of you looking at buying a new video card may want to wait, ATI and NVidia anounced new cards, so the old ones are going to drop in price soon I bet.
I am betting the 9800 pro and XT drop 50 to 100 bucks soon.

As for engine managnent, there is no overheating from running at Military for long periods, and is the realistc anyway?
Can anyone give me some sources on that? I was reading through the book on the V1710, and it had to run for like 17 hours or something at military to pass the AAC tests.
They are forcing you to lower manafold pressure and change the RPM( my understanding is that when you change the RPM you are changing prop pitch to do it) to lower fuel consumption.
With the fuel consumption set at 2.25, the gas goes VERY fast, and planes like the LA7 are going to be more rare because of it.
Hell in AH1 with a full tank you only have like 30 minutes of flight time, so in II that is going to be cut down even more if you run around firewalled all the time.
The have a window off the map that tells you how much gas you are using and gives you RPM and manifold pressure settings for things like Military, WEP, and cruise.
As for people just talking about how it looks, FLY THE DAMN PLANES! the flight model is FAR from aceshigh...

Unfortunately, I've had to cancel my account, and I don't think I'll be in the sky in Aces High anytime soon, if ever. Well...maybe from time to time in the H2H Arena, but that pretty much blows, most of the time.

OMG this game rocks now
Just had a fight. you know one of those where its all 3 countries represented by 3 planes My p-38 against a Knight 109 and a Bish Pony. of course its gang the 38. 109 was good, pony was the usual, limpwristed slapper. BUT pony thought he could he fight after 5 missed passes, I oblige And soon we are fighting, I get on his tail,but 109 is d600 and shooting,but hes not hitting! Pony tries to outstall me on loop I close and shoot, dont even see the hits thanks to the rocking new sprites and knock his Vert. Stab off. I engage 109 but auger because I am flying with my custom AH stick setup on default AH2 stick setup :(
I hope button settings and view settings are compatable AH1-AHII

Make sure that you get the 9600 XT and not the standard 9600 if you opt for the budget card. My 9600XT works great on my 2g N'wood machine.
I've flown beta a few times, it would be wise for those diehards that are sticking with AH1 until the bitter end to get your butts in the beta arena or else you'll be flying like total noobs when it goes live and AH1 is no longer......
....ummm, nevermind, I've forgotten how much fun killin' sheep is.

2nd that on the ATI 9600XT excellent card by far the best bang for the buck card I've ever put in a system. Far better then the GeForce FX cards but I'm biased towards ATI.
Get a constant 75fps in AH2

That's excellent news. I placed an order for the 9600XT yesterday. Hopefully it will arrive within the next couple of days and I can install it over the weekend. $175 at ProVantage.Com was cheaper than off-the-shelf and I'm going to be too busy doing non-computer stuff for the next couple of days to miss playing. I wanted to stay under $200, which pretty much ruled out the 9800 series.

I'll probably play more with AHII. AH just got stale for me, like a lot of folks. It never was bad, it just never changed.
I expect more hours in AHII once it goes live. The download here on this dialup in Texas is killing me so I haven't tried it here (using son's computer). I head back to Washington this weekend so I will probably download it at home and re-try it. The early betas were fine but not that impressive.
