Here's the newest addition to our collection at the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

In case anyone doesn't know exactly what she is, she's a FW-190D-13. There were only a handful produced and this one, although flown in combat, didn't score any victories.

How did the museum come to own it? Where was it before now? Was it shot down and restored, or simply captured at the airfield where it was based?
-
This plane is on loan from the Champlin collection and was shipped up from Mesa last week. It was captured intact and last flown by Maj. Franz Goetz, Geschwader Kommodore JG/26, in May 1945. The aircraft has gone under extensive restoration at Gosshawk Aviation in Mesa and is complete down to the stencils. With the opening of our new fighter wing on June 6th, a trip to the museum should be in your travel plans.

Cool! Thanks for the link. I noticed that direct sunlight had a noticable effect on the shade of green used for camo on the back spine:

Yep, the morning light shining through the glass at the museum is tough on pictures. I wanted to take some pics outside yesterday, but they moved it inside after I left. More pics to come after she's all put together!

Do you notice someone has took the elevator ?
Or is it to prevent something ?
:)

They still have to attach a few parts and that will be done by the end of the day.
:)

Absolutely beautiful. Is it airworthy?
-
wow...very nice.

Link said 2 months before the end? No kills?
Any more info?

*whispers* Pssst Stony, the IMG tags are already embeeded in the Picture Hangar code, no need to add them :)

When they built the 190D, did they build all-new fuselages or did they simply modify the A's with a different wing position?
