Post by: Sandman on May 18, 2004, 11:28:12 PM
Ya know... I used to have some respect for our northern brothers...

Now, I have my doubts. (http://www.cardomain.com/id/nutcase999)

Going wheeling in the sieras this coming weekend with my brother in law, with an Xterra club.

Should be fun.

He wants to yank the stupid brush gaurd off, cause it is a POS and it you bump anything will mess the hood up.

Doing the crap to a 4X4 is lame... lol

That's a smart move. :)

The only problem removing it is the two HUGE holes that had to be cut in the Valance to put it in.

They bought it with it on there, not knowing any better.

Mine had a Nissan brush guard on it when it was sitting on the lot... They took it off before I would buy it.

This may be a stupid question, but where is the valance?

So when the speedo says 70, he is doing like 45MPH, right?  I always thought they drove slow because they were stoned and had the seat laid back so far they couldn't see.

The panel under the bumper were the fog lights go?

I like the Xterra, and it seems to wheel pretty good.

He is yanking the side steps off as well, the club told him if he didn't the trail would for him!

Yeah... the nerf bars have to go... I've been taking mine off whenever I'm off road, but that little ritual is at an end. My ShrockBars (http://www.shrockworks.com/nisbars.htm) were shipped yesterday. :D

Gee... our Canadian subject seems to be getting smarter and smarter with every post. :D

Though, I guess it's a bit ironic that being smart entails ripping a bunch of stuff off the vehicle you paid for.

Not the issue, my confused friend. :) I'm replacing stuff so I can extend the capability of the vehicle. Our subject has been replacing stuff to change the way the vehicle looks at the cost of losing capability. The guy spent thousands of dollars extra for the four-wheel drive and then rendered it useless.

My concept has always been that they spent, what half a billion on engineering the suspension geometry?  Why would I want to dick with that?

As for adding roll bars, real brush guards, skid plates, etc, that makes sense.

Sandy
Is yours the supercharged one? My brother in laws is, seems pretty quick for a truck.

If I trade in my truck it is still going to be on a Jeep rubicon though lol.

No supercharger. That wasn't an option in 2000. IIRC, that didn't come about until 2003.

FWIW, the supercharger is really a response to the complaints about available power while driving on the road. Offroad, there's little benefit to having it.

Yeah, I can see that, it may be a detriment even if it impacts low end torque, still a cool feature for the Xterras

I love mine.  I have a V6, locking rear differential and a stick.  In 4wheel and 1st gear, you hardly have to clutch it, no matter how tough the terrain.

:aok

Locking rear diff? What did you add?

Post by: Dune on May 20, 2004, 10:05:18 PM
Sorry, I should have said "limited-slip" differential.

Oh... and I must add... Nissan does not sell a 4x2 Xterra in Canada. Our boy isn't necessarily as silly as he would be if he were American. :)

Take another look...

The larger rim combined with much lower profile tires hasn't made much difference in the overall diameter.
