Title: Mossie WEP boost should be 18lbs, not 14lbs, shouldn't it?
Post by: Karnak on May 19, 2004, 12:00:54 AM
The Mossie's WEP should be at 18lbs boost, not 14lbs boost.  14lbs boost was max continuous as I understood it.

I was wondering why I hadn't seen a Karnak Mossie post in here, I feel more at ease now :)

I seldom fly the mossie, but usualy enjoy it when I do, when I don't clip my wingtips with overspeed...

What I'd really, really like is a Mossie that was faster than 335mph on the deck.

That isn't very fast for an aircraft that had a reputation for speed.

A reputation for speed indeed, but for it's class it's rather fast :)
335 for a twin engined bomber/attacker is very very much! So you want it even faster??!

It's actually in the top 10 in OTD speed category - IF, the post-'44 monster planes are disregarded...

 So..

 Increase Mossie boost!
 Join the NPA crusade! :D

Depends on the engine fitted.  +18 lbs would be applicable to the Merlin 25, +14 for a Merlin 21 or 23.

The speed graph seems to indicate ours has Merlin 25s.

Actually, no, 335 isn't.

Look at the speed on the Boston Mk III and A-20G.  The Mossie is only slightly faster.

The Boston equiped squadrons were very, very happy to get the Mossie and considered it, despite it's lack of guns, to be bringing them into the modern age of aircraft.  The Boston Mk III was considered obsolete.

In AH there would be very little to choose between a Boston Mk III and a Mosquito Mk IV.

As to the Mosquito Mk VI, without the flame dampers it would do over 350mph on the deck.  Keep in mind that it isn't a bomber.  It is a fighter-bomber.  It was used in the fighter/attacker role with great success.

The Mosquito NF.Mk 30 could do over 420mph.
