Hello, I am looking for some information on best climb speed settings; I know that each aircraft has its own best setting (depending on fuel, ordnance load out, & altitude). Is the default climb speed the optimum one for the AC? So for example you have an AC with 75% fuel is there a general rule for climb speed settings? Also I fly mostly the P51B and F4U-1 with the above fuel load what would be their best settings. Thanks

Just a guess, but I think you'll find most fighters climb best around 175.
You can experiment with a few different speeds for each aircraft and load, watch the climb rate, and choose accordingly.

Alt X is automatically set to best climb speed at SL. As you climb, you can bump your elevator trim tabs to increase or decrase that speed setting. Climb a bit and then bump it and see if your climb increases. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I have found that most aircraft are not set correctly for maximum ft/min climb by default. Perhaps best climb angle alt/dist, but not best ft/min.
I agree 175 is near optimum for most planes. In the slower planes I'll go down to around 160 for best climb, and the faster ones up to about 200.
Never done any REAL testing, but after continuosly out-climbing my squadmates, we deduced that the default auto-climb is NOT the optimum setting in most planes.

is there any command to get a readback on what the autoclimb speed is set on at the time?
