Title: Thompson 1928 v. Thompson M1A1
Post by: AdmRose on May 19, 2004, 06:07:22 PM
I brought this up earlier but I think it deserved more attention. For the extra 1/2 pound, I'll take the extra 70 rounds of .45 ACP in the 1928, even if the drums are cumbersome.

Are the full autos still available? The AO site says law enforcement and export only.

Who's got the good ones with the large capacity magazines?

I may need one of those. Well, that or a motorcycle. I'm in the mood for some fun.

You need to hook on a full drum and take a standing firing postion. :) It's heavy. I haven't fired my drum in a long time. Seems I had more jams with it than the magazine. Could be that problem (if I had it) may have been cleared up in the last 20 years :)

Should add, If the M1A1 was around when I bought mine. I would have gotten it instead. I like the lok of the mil ver better.

Remember, the more complicated something is, the more likely something will go wrong.

I read somewere that the drums were noisy and unreliable.

Plus they have to cost like 20 times more to make then a simple box mag.

GtoRA2 this stuff is all new manufacture and hopefully some redesign. Don't remember my drum being noisy. It seemed to be a jam problem with the one I have. Course, I haven’t used that drum in 10+ years. So I may be remembering it wrong.

At the time I was planning to but to put together a small assault weapon collection. Wanting to get an AK and an Uzi. Was looking at a Heckler & Koch G3 or an HK33 type (can’t remember which). I have a Colt AR-15 and a dated Inland General Motors 6-44 M-1 Carbine that my dad restored back to mint condition. He traded a M-2 Paratrooper carbine to a NYS Trooper for it. The Trooper restored the M-2 back to full auto select.

I know a guy that has 2 1928's. They are in the original cases with all the literature and spare drums. No, they are not for sale...I've tried.:(
