So how do you over clock your cpu??
-
what is overclocking?
-
1st ... can you tell me the exact specs of your pc ???
(what type,mb,cpu,ram,vc ,ect)
2nd this isnt your parents pc is it ???
3rd do you know how to get into a pc's bios ?
4th do you know how to check its tempature ,voltages, ect ?
5th have you ever read the mainboard manual for it ??
6th do you know what "Flashing the bios is ?"
7th is your cooling system and power supply up to the job?
8th you can wreck a pc if you do the wrong thing to it ,or burn up components .
9th do you know how to reset the bios / cmos jumper ?
Some pc's are over clocked with jumpers , most of the newer hi end pc's have clockable bios settings , and for the others theres overclock programs .(warning a overclock program can hurt a pc if you dont know what your doing )
the above is just a few things to ponder and anser befor we give you the secrets .

yes it's my computer. but i do not plan to overclock it(it to old to even be a little fast). Just waundering how to overclock it. I know how to check my bios, temp, ect. I am also building a new computer soon.

As Rosco said USE WITH EXTREME CAUTION AND AT YOUR OWN RISK, Spend the time educating yourself before you fry your system. A lot of good info here-

Be careful and Good Luck

Best advice I can give ya is .
If ya gotta ask what it is .
Dont do it LOL.
Read up on it and make dang sure ya got good cooling.

I am an overclocking skeptic. If you want a guarnteed stable system playing AH, don't bother. The most you will get without spending a lot of time and hassle is a few hundred megahertz on, say, a 2 gigahertz machine if you are lucky. You won't even notice in real world applications. Save your money for a new graphics card or more ram or a CPU upgrade.
On the upside, if you overclock cautiously on a modern motherboard, you are unlikely to do permanent damage.
-
overclocking is to a pc as souping up an engine is to a car...sorta. When you o/c a cpu (and some cpu's are more forgiving than others) you are bumping up voltage and/or clock speed/and or multipliers to make the chip run faster. As the chip runs faster, it gets hotter. At some point, is starts locking up. Also, your memory must be up to the task our your memory generates errors. The cpu and memory may take it, but the heat generated on the chip may lock it up or fry the chip. Now, what do you gain? well, maybe a 5-10% gain; not really alot, but it is fun! Now, lets do the car comparison: You take your car, put some cool stuff on it, maybe a better carb, cam etc. You get some more horse power...but if you had just got a bigger, better engine to start with, you have a stock engine that is less trouble. Sorta the same with o/c'ing a chip. If you need the performance, and I mean NEED, then get a new mobo/cpu/memory combo. If you just want to soup up your pc, go for it. Don't forget cooling is as critical as anything else -- there are water coolers, glycol, massive fans, specialized heat sink paste, etc etc etc. Or you can buy a newer, faster parts.

I have my P4 2.4 OC to 3.0 1000 Mgz FSB @ stock voltage on air.
using Mushkin Lvl 2 pc 3500 DDR ram
BH-5 chips I dont think you can get it any more.
My cpu temp is 89f
And im using the stock intell fan LOL.
You just have to use the right memory and set your timings right.
that way you dont have to crank up your voltage.
its the voltage that makes the heat.
-
TMX,
I have the same RAM. What timing s are you using? Mine are at
6 2 2 2T. I also use stock CPU vlotage but RAM is bumped up one level.

Ummm...how do I er um.....*shuffle feet*...make my computer really fast. I mean...er....ummm a computer...yeah thats it.
I promise I won't do it...i was just ummmm, you know...wondering?

Running pretty loose.
8-4-4-2 @5.4 200mhz voltage up one level

Start out by educating yourself and seeing if the desire to do it outweighs the fear of frying something. Here is a good place to start.-http://forums.pcper.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4
The same warnings as the above posts apply. BE CAREFUL and don't do it unless you are sure of what you are doing. Increase speed gradually and test each increase with Memtest 86 and Prime 95 Torture test. If it doesn't pass these tests, it isn't stable.

if and when (and this is to all who do) you decide to OC a machine the best place i have found for info is OCFORUMS its a BBS just like this and it has sections like the "HARDWARE and SOFTWARE" section here for every MOTHER BOARD and EVERY CHIP SET and every CPU (not to mention the Video cards, cooling ect.)
http://www.ocforums.com/vb/
look at the combos others use and
YOU wont regret it and read up heavily on the MOBO(motheboard), CPU, RAM TYPE and amount (+ settings) + cooling options - that your looking into
-
the ocforum is a must read along with doing a thurough how to search on your particular mainboard cpu combo ...
I will toss in the extreame caution is needed when flashing a bios chip ... I got a bad bios program for a sp97 asus mb i had and had to find another chip for it .. along with the fact that it popped 2 cpu's .. if you do use a different bios program beshure that there was alot of different ginni pigs that tested it 1st.
Also if your gonna play off the porch and overclock its best to learn on a spare pc 1st .

Go to http://www.vapochill.com and your cooling problems are solved.
Sure it costs an arm and a leg, but you can push your CPU where few men have gone before.

Vapo chill is suckin hind teet to these guys.

Yes the Prometeia is very good too.
I just hear the installments are pretty noisy compared to vapochill - that's a major factor to me.
-
LOL they both have the same cooling unite .
Its just that the prometiea cools down another 20watts.
They are both noisy.
Both the vapo chill Is i think a better looking package more used friendly.
