Title: NOBODY ORDER JOYSTICKS FROM BESTBUY.COM!!!
Post by: Mattibaby80 on November 19, 2000, 05:54:00 PM
I would like to share a rescent experience with you.  1 week ago I made a discovery that Bestbuy.com was offering Saitek X36 joystick and throttle combo for the low, low, price of $41.50 plus tax.  Seeing as I could not find these at any of my local stores (including all the surrounding Bestbuys) I placed an order.  Well it's been a week, and I had not recieved my purchase so I decided to to call the company.  They informed me that "The order was canceled because they could not verify my credit card."  When I asked them if I could replace my order, the said sure, but now the price of the combo had gone up to $60.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/eek.gif)  Getting quite pissed, I asked them if they would give the set for the original price when I placed my order, and they told me no.  I have all the documentation from my purchase, and it clearly says the price I had previously ordered it at.  I also got NO F#@%&*G email telling me my order had been canceled, which I think is totally unexscusable.  So, thoroughly defeated, I replaced the order (I really, really, want this setup) at the $60 price, thoroughly dejected and demoralized and completely turned off from the "online shopping experience."

Heres what I think REALLY happened.  People saw the price and started ordering them in large numbers.  Bestbuy, seeing the increase of purchases for this set (it was originally $120) and said "Damn we made a mistake making this thing so cheap, we better raise the price and make more money."  Any rescent orders "Were not approved" and the people had to reorder them at the new price.  I for one will never shop online at a Bestbuy.com, and my faith in the store has been shattered.

So tell your friends, tell your families, tel your dog, your cat, or anybody.  Do not go to bestbuy.com for "SCAMline shopping" as you are just going to get screwed out of your money.  I also would not recommend going to their store either.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/mad.gif)

Saitek...

they have a reputation to uphold don't ya know!!
don't buy a saitek unless you don't mind returning it every few weeks for faulty workmanship.

that is sad that they jacked up the price but even at $60 you can't beat it.

The USB Saitek setup is much better then the previous analog one.
It's fair price is $100 but you can get it for around $80 now.
They are in demand - many stored do not have them because Saitek cannot make them fast enough.

When you saw one being sold for half the price for no good reason you should have suspected it too good to be true. Of course you can take advantage of their error, but if it does not work out, you look silly complaining. $60 is a great price for that setup.

I bought the Saitek USB X36 2 weeks ago from Best Buy Online. It had been on backorder for a while but it finally did ship. Got it for $48.. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif). Sorry to hear you had problems but for $50 or so its worth it.

Matti,

This may not work for you and it may make little difference now, but you may be able to verify that BB did or did not actually try to authorize your account.  If it truely was rejected, you may even be able to find out why it was rejected.  Try by calling the 800 number on your credit card statement and explain the info you need from them.  You want to verify authorization attempts on your account for a certain time period, and the results of those authorizations.

The company I work for processes credit card authorizations and settlements....I often talk to the authorizing bank to determine very specific information about specific requests, mostly to figure out why a request was rejected.  Believe me, they keep good details about every transaction that comes in and out.  The difference might be that I talk to the authorizing bank, while you need to start with the issuing bank...but I'm pretty sure the issuing bank has the same records since they are the ones who would have denied your card.

I've never done this from a customer standpoint but I hope you can get the results you need.

p.s. I already ordered my $60 stick last Friday from the.  The site said I would receive confirmation when shipped; according to the email I recieved it shipped about 4 hours after I ordered it.

There is no excuse in this day and age why you were not notified that your card did not pass.  It sounds suspicious, as you indicated.
