Title: Carrier Landings
Post by: jplorey on May 20, 2004, 10:29:45 AM
Made a cpouple of dozen carrier landings in AH2 , and I think the landing envelope is a bit severe.  Each time I land I end up nose down on the deck.  Went back to AH and made 5 successful landings in a row.  Back AH2 with same result.

I approach tha carrier from the port side at 1000 feet with full flaps, wheels and hook down.  Hit the deck at 100 mph, and hit the arresting cables every time.  Tried shallower approaches in AH2 to no avail.  Tried with attitude not do flared, (nose level), that does not work either, still end up nose down.

Noticed you can put on more flaps at higher speed in F6F in AH2 then AH.  Decelerates better in AH2 as well.

I haven't had any problems landing on a cv.  Besides, I always thought it was a bit too easy in AH1.

F4U-1 should be have problem on Carrier landing, y'know bounce or toss off and US Navy reject Corsair until they fix the problem.  Wonder if HTC would make that happen for bounce Corsair?
