Are there any out there in BBS land?

I was wondering what's the best possible to build for under $200 with monitor?  I know that it's rediculous but just wondering for S's&G's

I use http://www.pricewatch.com  Its the best place for finding the latest (within the last year) in hardware for the lowest prices.  Just got my ASUS mobo from them.

As far as under $200 W/ monitor your really limiting yourself.  I'd check your local paper.  Ebay's got a bunch of stuff but your gonna get raped in shipping.

W/o monitor you can build a decent gaming system for about $500.  I use the word decent almost loosly

The only way to build one under $200 is to gut your old system for usable parts (i.e. video, sound, ram, power supply, case) and look for a decent moboard/cpu combo. Memorial Day is coming quick, should be some big sales at newegg, tigerDirect and Fry's.

i have a vivid memory of buying a 386 DX33 for about 2000$..... then there was Pentium 1 60 mhz for 2200$ and Pentium 166 for about 2500$.... and you're looking for something under 200$ ? :)

Cheap, No OS.

You're best off building your own machine from scratch, and putting some money into it.  The best system to build is to use the best parts for the lowest price.  i.e. Most components, the price goes up as the speed/capacity goes up, but then at some point that price goes up a LOT more for a much smaller gain.  Aiming for right before that jump gets you a good system, that will last, while costing as little money as possible.

Buying a top of the line, bleeding edge machine is a waste of money, it won't last much longer than the system i just described.  Buying 'budget' pc's is a waste of money, and an exercise in frustration when in 6months you find it is already obsolete.

Build your own Alienware for about half the cost of that unit and be happy drinking yourself into oblivion with the remainder.
