Title: what has been your most heart pounding fight in the last month?
Post by: mechanic on May 21, 2004, 05:37:54 AM
just wondering if people go through the same feelings i do when i have a (hard to find) nice one on one or a evenly matched furball.

i find a little alcohol (or what ever your chosen chemical indulgence may be) will set me up for a real good heart pounder.

cant think of one this month yet but i will look through my films in the next few days and post again.

Although some of my favorite fights this month have been against the likes of Cars2, CavemanJ and SEBrock

to you fellows and hope i have learnt some tactics for next month.

post your fave fights here and salute/whine at will.

Edit *(Mechanic:  <======hopes to slow down the posts about cheating, has known people to get booted for talking about cheating in the MA on a much smaller scale.)*

had a great fight last night defending a137 (i think) with 2 squaddies from wave after wave of 68 squadron.  Was not really heart pounding but was one of the best fights i've had in ages, none of this alt monkey rook crap, hoarding or anything like that.

Mine would be in one of my missions.
It's 4 vs 4 Axis vs Allied dogfights with everyone in close formation.
All icons are disabled, fuelburn is 1.5, no externals and normal ammo settings.
These fights are the most realistic thing you can get in AH :)

Here are some films of our last mission.

We Rolled A-20s for a repeat attack on a Nazi port facility. On the way to the target, one of men called out "Cruiser, 2 O'Clock!" There was a brief confusion as we communicated with the Command Staff as to whether we should divert from our assigned target an hit the Prinz Eugin. The order was given, and we turned to the East.

Thinking this would be a quick strike, and that we'd be able to continue on to our original objective. I sent two pilots forward to sink the bastard while the rest of us drew fire from above. Unfortunately, the CA was a hard target to nail down. I ended up committing all of my resources to the strike.

I was in the second wave, I rolled over the target, trying to keep my speed as low as possible to prevent the plane from falling apart. I pickled my bombs, but the CA began a turn, and I knew that I was in trouble. I was taking hits as I pulled out, so I'm honestly not sure if I ripped my wings off, or if the CA took them out. Either way, I was a wingless missile heading for the drink.

We lost 4 or 5 planes, but the CA was sunk, and no longer able to shell our forward positions.

Thus ended my first Attack command in the Kurland Scenario.

Hehe.  The other day the carrier was literally parked a stone's throw away from an enemy base.  It was a furball 4 feet off the ground.  Spits everywhere, a pair of la7's, flaks on the ground just aiming into the ball of twisting planes, some F4u's.  And me in my Fm2.

I think I landed 6 kills that flight.

Just started flying the FW190A5 these last few weeks. On my second sortie I was headed south to two radar cons doing an end run to our base on the coast. I reasoned they were heavy and identified the first as a Hellcat, low, headed north to the base. I let him pass and identified the second as a Hellcat but headed east? He was lower and flying straight and level so I dived into the target which was sure to be an easy kill. Usually my rides are the big US planes. This little FW190 picked up so much speed so fast that I blew by the Hellcat before I could pull the trigger! He dropped his bombs and rockets and we started to maneuver. We went head to head and he blew off half my right wing. Luckily I still had some control and ran as fast as I could to a friendly base to make a good wheels up landing.

About a week ago I ventured into the AH2 arena for the first time. I started by flying the P-51D and discovered that it was even more deadly with the new flight model.

With some bad guys inbound I tried the Spit9. Spotting a lower P-51, I flew over and as expected, he tried to zoom up for a shot. I pulled into an off angle loop fully prepared to drop on the Mustang for the easy kill.

Then the damn Spit stalled.... It took a few seconds to wrestle back control. Meanwhile the P-51 was boring in at me. I hauled around and evaded it. However, the Spit once again entered an accelerated stall, forcing me to ease up and counter the snap-roll tendency with a boot full of rudder. I engaged WEP to regain some E as we passed by each other a few times. Meanwhile, I'm trying to figure out what the heck was going on with this new flight model. On our next reverse, I had a chance for an off-angle snap shot and scored on the Mustang, getting his oil and largely blinding the pilot. A few more reverses and I was able to finish off the P-51.

To say that I was surprised with the new flight model would be a huge understatement.

Later I encountered A Spit9 while I was flying a P-51B. Pressing the Spit, I saw it snap-roll under high G and I clobbered it as the pilot tried to gather it back up.

As far as I can tell, the P-51 gives up little to the Spit9's FM in AH2, especially when you get a notch of flaps out.

I tried the P-47D-30, low gas, 8 guns with short clip. I ran into an La-7 who tried work the vertical, only to find that the light Jug zoom climbs like crazy. After getting pinged good by a snap shot, he skedaddled. Meanwhile, I at least had discovered that the P-47 FM held no surprises.

I can only wonder what other FM shocks are in store...

My regards,

Widewing

I love a good off - carrier fight. I used to fly the seafire alot, love that little plane. Good furballing and then there's always a couple of bomber formations coming in low to drop on.

I wish i could get that caught up in the game like i use to. I just cant seem to do it. I mean it dont matter who i fight, Levi, Steve a Numbers guy, its all the same. I respect all my foes the same, no more no less, and it seems all the fights pretty much are the same now. No heart pounding, no buzz, its just a game. I either put another quarter in or a log:( .

Good to read people still get that buzz from it. S! to the stories, keep em coming.:D

What is funny about this thread is I was thinking about this just the other day... About what the best fight would be that I've had. Weird, I dont have one that sticks out above all the rest.

Many of my most memorable fights have taken place in the DA. Nomak and I used to tear it up in there big time. We would have some fights that lasted for what seemed like an hour. IMHO he; when in his prime, was the best 1v1 stick in the game hands down.

i just got out of the MA after having a great 30 minute battle seemingly on my own against bishlandia.

i was cruising along at 8k in my little spit V and all of a sudden i am being boomed by a typhoon, a yak and an F4u.

twisting and turning to the best of my abilities i avoided death and slowly started losing them their advantage as they got more and more frustrated at my heart still beating.

after 5 mins of dodging i managed to get the yak in a sweet reversal or two as he dived on my 6 and sent him falling to earth with no elevators. i checked behind and only just had time to swerve out of the typhoon's cannon spray as he came swooping at me again. by now i had lost sight of the F4u so it was just me and the Typhy. for another 15 mins we danced around in a series of (his) booms and (my) reversals, pinging but never having the chance we needed to down one another.

starting to feel the fatigue i headed towards my base in the hope for friendly assistance and we continued to dance.

to my horror all i found closer to my base was an nik2, a Hurri and a pony. whilst still dodging the deadly typhoon, who masterfully never lost his E enough for me to hit him with more than 303s.

My final stand was as all of them decended on me at once. i reversed on the niki and pinged him up but as i dropped down again the hurri ploughed his 20mm through my tail section and i was down.

Was a great fight and i enjoyed watching the film.
wish i knew how to post films here.

To the typhoon (bish pilot - ZABE)  big <> to you sir    was much fun.

to the cherry pickers who stole ZABE's kill.   nice shot, but know your place if i ever meet you 1 on 1  ;)

Best one I had I was in an FM2 on the deck just N E of the city at A1  on the center island in the small island map with bogies all over me like a wet blanket, Spits Nikis La7's and just about everythiung else
I managed to dodge em all for at least a full 5 min Which is a freaking long time with that many people on ya
Got 8 kills 3 of em forced augers into a cute little hill there I kept managing to just barely avoid before someone finally got me.
LOL I felt like a bullfighter in a ring with 20 bulls chargine me all at the same time.
When it was over my heart was pounding. my hands were sweaty and my forearm  puffed up like I just got done spending a day driving nails into granite.
Did some of my best flying ever in that fight I just wish I had filmed it.
Or better yet. wish I could repeat that performance LOL

The CT scenario limited my country to LUFTIRON.  So I didn't have ACCESS to anything more agile.  109F4 is the closest I could get to Spit V maneuverability.

You dance wid whut's available.

Doesn't matter the plane, but it always goes like this:

Low con flying on autoclimb.  I dive low six and trim out.
Does he see me?  Not yet as I approach d1000, d900.
Ok, they usually start to move about now d800, d700.
Maybe I'll get lucky.  Should I fire now at d600 he's still
not moving.  My heartbeat quickens and I can feel sweat
on my palm as I manuever under his six.  d500 and not
a move d400 - up slowly d300 carefully line up on the fuse.
My heart races madly, one move and the cat's outta the bag.
d200 and all my cannons roar.

Been flying for years and this STILL gets me.

63-41 in 109f4's vs spit5's (CT this month) and i always carry gondies. and turn with the spit5's. a lot of those 109 deaths (13) came at levi's spit5 hands tho' and some were pretty close calls.

Was checking out the Ah2 Spit14 awhile back.  Dove in on 4-5 red guys figuring at least I'd get to see some of the new damage effects as they tear me apart.  I was saved by a combination of my sheer dweebness and the new/unfamiliar flight models and gunnery.  Ended up landing 5 kills, but I know I didn't deserve more than 1. :D

It will be hard to beat last night.
Rooks had a CV parked off 22 in Beta arena and Knights were flying down south for the fun.   Grabbed a SpitV and banked & yanked for a couple of hours straight.  Great six calls coming out from bish and a high level of skill on all sides gave me the best fight I've had since coming back to AH.
to all involved.
Pic sums it up really.

Noticed a 190 A8/F8  (not sure which) down below myself whilst in a Spit IX, I was maybe 2 k above him, dropped down nicely, was on his long six and getting closer, all of a sudden he rolled away above me and as I was climbing to him he changed direction and nearly ended upon my six, now I was impressed as I was expecting a very easy kill in a Spit versus a 190 and me with more E, eventually another rook (I was rook too) joined in and was promptly shot down, eventually I managed the kill despite the best 190 driving I have ever seen.

5 Minutes later whilst heading home I notice another 190 of the same type, I was certain it was the same driver, I turned towards him and we merged head on and then danced a while, by the moves I now knew it was the same driver, same result though but I was staggered by the quality of the moves having seen nothing that good before.

On common channel I saluted the driver with praise, he didn't reply though, maybe lazerus was too busy to reply,

I've been in a slump lately. The only problem with an AH slump is that you can't sit on the bench and collect millions until your contract runs out.

I've had new CH pedals, throttle and stick for 5 weeks now but I'm still making some stupid mistakes in the heat of battle. For example, I'd push a button to talk to a squaddie and 'kaplunk' there goes my ordinance. I've put so many holes in mountains that I may start a strip mining business in AH. I switched the buttons around then for a while I was saddling up behind bogies and never getting any kills because I'd be pushing the talk button instead of the secondary weapon button.

Or, the 'Mother-of-all-Mistakes,' I'll be looking out the rear using my hat on the throttle to keep my eye on a bogey as I move vertical and then "DARN IT!" - I accidently hit the auto-level button and get blown out of the sky before I can recover.  :)

I feel like such a complete beginner again that I want to type into the text buffer: "How do I takeoff?" I've flying Spits a little lately to try to get some maneuvering feel back and something very strange happened today. Usually it's been takeoff, engage, die ad nauseum but today I went 3 v1 against a Yak, N1K and Spit V and survived. Not only did I survive, but I triumphed against relentless P-51's Spits and 190's. I did have one vulch, but for the first time, I landed 8 kills in one sortie without rearming.

That's Fester, or Morpheus, or Shane, or Steve kind of stuff. The only thing that could have made it better would have been  someone calling me a cheater... I immediately logged off and walked to the store to buy an ice cream cone. :D

Title: P-47 sortie
Post by: mitchk on May 25, 2004, 02:09:50 PM
After bieng killed twice by a tiger I decided I would get some revenge. I took off in a fully loaded P-47D30 and started climbing out to where the tiger was hopinh he would be there.  On the way I had to drop to the deck many times to abowd contact with the enemy. After finalty getting to the base I found many gvs, I looked around for my tiger friend and there he is sitting in the town fireing at friendlies. So I do a split-S and dive dropping 2 1000lbers and my 500lber on his head, he blows up:D . I fire my rockets on some more tanks scoring a m-8 and an m-16. I see a spit uping from the field and start climbing, he didn't see me till it was to late, boom it was my tiger friend:D . Another spit is uping so I climb again but he is watching me, when I came down on his 6 I droped flaps and followed but couldn't follow him. I see a Yak coming in with alt advantage so I retracted flaps and meet him head on I hit his radiator and he gets half my right wing, he started for base as did I (to mine)  I see another m-8 in the town and fill him with .50s then extend for home I look behind me and the spit is gaining as I huge the turain. I get the kill message for the m-8 or the Yak don't know. The spit is now withing 800 and pinging me I came over the hill finaly and lose combat trim to gain more speed the distance gets bigger but spit is still following after about 30 miles he runs out of gas and its my tiger friend:D . Now I am going in for a landing with a F6F trying to vulch I ran out of gas lost my landing gear and my other wing I am half way on and off the runway. I click tower as fast as I can the F6F is coming in I finaly got to the tower with 6 killes. I was so warn out and steaty I logged for the day. THANK YOU TIGER FRIEND <>

Last frame in the Kurland, I was in my Sturmi heading to P12. From 10k I dove down unloaded my bombs on the port, didn't have enough to take down warehouse but got a gun with my cannons.
I climbed back up to 7k. noticing to my left two 109's attacking fellow Ruskies. So I dive in , goin about as fast as that beast will go, I see one of the 109's isn't paying attention to my closing rate. He starts a lazy right hand banking tur towards my mate, I turn inside him and open fire. The lead angle was so severe, that the sprite hits were down around my gas gauges.....smoke one 109G10.

Seeing tracers flying by, i continue my turn and make it a half roll and start diving down. I figure now's a good time to try that overshoot thingy. I dive down right, kill throttle, roll upwards, while in roll, I see/ hear second 109 whizz by me. When i exit roll, give full throttle and right in front of me, starting a right hand banking turn is second G10,...turning inside with another volley of severe deflected shooting, ...bang, bang, bang...more sprites mid cockpit. When I levelled nose to look, voila, a second wingless 109G10.

Fear the killer Sturmi!!

What a blast that was. Of course facing the next set of 109's, the pilots worked together and killed me quite easily. (overBkil) But that was still the best fun I had for quite a while.

I took one of our newbie squaddies on a sweep to one of our bases that was under attack. I was flying a FW190A5, I forgot what he was flying. I gave him the pep talk about just following me and covering my arse. We get to the field under attack and I start a shallow dive to pick up speed from about 15k. As I dive through the furball, I pick off three nme figs in about 15 seconds with little twists of the rudder, hardly changing direction. We both sweep up out of the mess and get ready for another sweep. Well, by now all the nme figs are on the deck, so I decide to beat feet for home. Not the greatest of fights, but the quickest 3 kills I ever made.

:aok

Is that blood on the windscreen?  Doesn't look like oil.

Whats pathetic is a lot of people in the MA would read this and go,  "Man, that sounds like an AWESOME fight!!".

Good point, but because I'm not really any good in a 190. The nme planes on the deck where in turn fights and I probably thought my chances weren't very good. It also depends on whether I care of not and just barrel in blasting away. Any good 190 drivers out there up for giving me some lessons?

:)

Never furball in a 190, and try to get a nice aim at your opponents :)

I've posted this somewhere else, but it was a sortie where I found myself low and not so fast in a F4U. I was surrounded by Bish - in Spits and LA7s - what else?

On three separate occasions, I had a La7 closing on my 6 and had to barrel roll my way out of it. The first one began spraying from about 500yds and was still spraying 600+yds out. Another one had just begun to close on me but broke off. So I turned and got his Spit buddy. Soon after I had an LA7 and a Spit chasing me at the same time. The Spit augered as he tried to follow my barrel roll, and the LA7 looked like he rammed me - but no damage my end. Then another LA7 took up the chase, along with a 190...

... biggest surprise was that I did land the sortie with those 2 kills - the Spit I shot, and the LA7 ram.

Here's the film. (http://www.zen33071.zen.co.uk/film262c.zip)

He broke off when he discovered it was you Beet1e. You had enough problems at that point anyway. You took enough hits and should have died mate.

-edit-

Got that wrong, looks like he rearmed after wasting ammo. :)
