Curiouser and curiouser. Why would people loyal to Hussein slaughter a civilian while pretending to be Al Qaida? How does that help their cause, whatever it may be?
-
Good question...the whole sordid story makes me sick...I hope they got the right people...it will be interesting to see their story

To throw us off the trail, and it seemed to work, we were blaming and looking for al-qeada(or just playing it that way so they would not hide). They cannot come out and say they are are members of saddams old regime or they would give themselves away, the search would be narrowed to say the least. Fortunately, this did not fool anyone(except maybe some on our BB?), and they got caught.

OK, so why kill him at all? How does it promote them?

They are doing what the palistinians are doing. Trying to provoke us into doing something just as horrible or worse. Which the Isrealis have done.

They want the American public to get sick of the killing and wear away at our support of the war in Iraq.

How would pretending to be al Qaida slaughtering a helpless US citizen make us want to get out of Iraq? If anything it would make us more inclined to stay.
-
because they do not know us.
they think they know us by the images/opinions they hear on the boob tube, usually from a news talking head of one sort or another.
-
To them, fear is a way of life, and intimidation is the only political mode they know. That is why it is so important for us not to go ape**** about things like the prison abuse and the need toshow a united front, and a willingness to both take and inflict death. It is all they know.

War wears on a population, that is just fact, especially if it is going to be longer than expected and the body count climbs.

How long did you expect it to take?

How long you or I believe how long it should take is besides the point. I don't think I was pointing out how long it should take. But I will quote a republican from the article:
"The only thing I think was good was when they got Saddam," said Anna Bartlow, 67, of Tulsa, Okla., a poll respondent who identified herself as a Republican. "That's the only thing that I think they did right, but if they were going to go over there just for him, they should have gotten him and then got out."
Of the Iraqis, Ms. Bartlow said, "Let them fight it out among themselves."
He asked why they would kill people, and it is very simple, to convince the American public it is not worth being there. It isn't hard to figure out. When I said they may be saudi or members of saddams old regime it was laughed at, but it makes alot of sense. They blame everything on al-qeada so there is no one to point a finger at, or one that can be tracked down. If they came out and said who they were, they would know where to look for them or have a good idea who it is.

Ms. Bartlow, obviously speaking on behalf of the entire republican party...... is a fool who has no idea what "let them fight it out among themselves" really means.

edit.... that's what I get for trying to read ahead of the class. :)

Then why did you say
especially if it is going to be longer than expected and the body count climbs
Now you're telling me how long it should take doesn't matter?

Ohh ooh Mr. Kotter! I've caught up, can I play?!
His point was "war wears on a population".
"especially if it is going to be longer than expected" was merely an adjunct or extension. "Especially" splits the two.
It maybe something in its own right, but it wasn't his point, no matter how much yer trying to steer him off course. :)
Thanks... I'm bored. :)
