Read his book "Memoirs Of The Second World War"

He is definitely one of the people I most admire. He was a political genius and one of the greatest leaders of all time IMHO.

While reading his book, I was struck by his intense attention to detail as well as his apparent candor in revealing his thought process.

Amazing man.

Also, one of the GREAT characters of all time.  

In January 1960, a reporter for the London Standard approached Churchill at a reception.

"Sir Winston, what is your comment on the prediction made the other day that in the year 2000, women will rule the world?"

"They still will, will they?" was Churchill’s grunted response.


While sitting on a platform waiting to speak, the seventy-eight-year-old Churchill was handed a note by an aide. Churchill glanced at the message, which advised, "Prime Minister—your fly is unbuttoned." Churchill then scrawled on the bottom of the note and passed it back.

It read, "Never fear. Dead birds do not drop out of nests."



When the first destroyers arrived in the fall Of 1940 under America Is Lend-Lease Program to Great Britain, Prime Minister Churchill went to inspect them. He was joined by FDR's right-hand man Harry Hopkins.

Churchill looked at the decidedly overaged rustbuckets and grumbled in a whisper, "Cheap and nasty."

Hopkins, who was startled by the remark, queried, "What was that?"

Churchill amended aloud, "Cheap for us and nasty for the Germans."

A great orator and leader, but could make questionable strategic decisions especially with the dominions, and the middle east.

At some public event, Churchill had had a few drinks. Some pompous lady approaches him (Lady Astor?) saying:
"You, dear gentleman,are DRUNK"
Churchill replies "And you, dear lady, are UGLY. But tomorrow I will be sober...."
