Remember this thread?:
Kerry falls of his bike (http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=115669&highlight=nash)
"Bush, who was accompanied on his bike ride by his doctor, Richard Tubb, a military agent and a member of the secret service, fell about 16 miles into a 17-mile ride. The accident caused minor abrasions his chin, upper lip, nose, right hand and both knees, but was able to ride back home, said Duffy.
Tubb treated the president on site. Mr Bush, according to Duffy, was wearing a helmet and a mouth guard when he fell.
The dude brings along a helmet, a fricken mouth guard AND his DOCTOR!
Kinda tells me he wasn't too confident in his biking skills. :)
Oh well, you had your Kerry fun over this, time for some more.
-
He made it 15.95 miles further than I could.
-
You can't ride a half a mile before falling off?
-
Kerry can't even ride a bike....?
-
wow he's the leader of the free world and goes on a 17 mile mountain bike trip?
I hear more about this guy that impresses me everyday!
You GO DUBYA!
-
nothing wrong with a helmet...but a mouthguard...PHHH...what kind of girly man is he?
no doubt he was riding a large version of this bike

From what I've read he can ride a bike. So much so that he's long since stopped using a mouth guard and a trailing team of physicians.
(Kerry was on a 20 mile ride when he hit the patch of sand, btw.)
-
Was that the patch of sand he voted on before he voted against it?
:rofl

It's easy to do a 20 mile ride when you hit sand after 200 feet and quit.

Course, he got there in that SUV he doesn’t own. :aok

Bicycles are dangerous vehicles to be on the road when cars are around. Just last night I was out on my twice a week bike ride, and just as I was nearing the completion of my grueling 4 mile circuit, a car backed out of the driveway not far from my house.
Mind you, this was about 12 midnight, and I had my front and rear strobes going, when the car pulled into the front yard and parked.
I wasn't wearing my glasses, and had my Radio Shack headphones on, when a beautiful blond exited the auto and said "Hi." It musta been the strobes she liked, but I said hi back, and I thnk she made a comment to furthur the conversation, but I was riding and had the radio on, and looking back at her too.:D
You see a lot of things on a bicycle you don't normally see in a car or on foot. It's a whole lot better than jogging. Gives you intervals of rest, and with gears, you can take it easy on yourself if need be. In my opinion, it's darn good and enjoyable exercise, long as it doesn't become an obsession, as athletes are prone to.
Riding on any main road is asking for trouble if cars are on the road at the same time.

Kerry rides so much that he brings his bike with him on his campaign plane.
Maybe Bush thought he had something to prove.
Either way, if you ride as often as Kerry does, it's a statistical certainty that you're gonna ditch.
What's Bush's excuse?

Now here's a great political debate.
Who's candidate is a better bike rider.

Did you read the link at the top of the thread.
It was the Bush supporters that seemed to think so. Blame them.

That's great logic.

Sure why not.

Bicycles are dangerous vehicles to be on the road when cars are around.
You’ll got that right. Back when I was a wee lad, my friends and I liked to play a little cat and mouse game with bike riders in our cars. Any biker in our lane would get the same treatment. Once spotted ahead, we’d shut down the ignition and quietly coast up from behind. Just as we pasted our victim, we turn the ignition back on and she’d backfire like a shotgun going off. I remember one guy I watch through the rearview. He was so surprised; he somehow managed to get his front wheel violently shaking back and forth. After a few shakes, his front wheel angled into the curb and over he went. Much fun, was enjoyed by all. :)
-
That was you???
-
Gee... why go through all that effort?
Why not just come up alongside him, wink, and fire a gun slightly over his head?
-
I can ride a bike. And I don't ever remember falling off. Well... I did have a lot of scratchs the morning after a '4-of -July' party but no one has any 'photos' .
-
Yeah, the wink makes it all understood that it's just for fun, ergo it's all okay ;)

yeah, being safe is for rutabagas.
-
Do you wear a mouth guard?
Bush should wear a white hockey helmet for just the day to day stuff. :D
-
Back in the day, when I was working out regularly in martial arts, we would always go to a rough bar and drink beer after the workout. Never had any problems.
One time I joked with my buddies saying, with the shape were in right now, we should wear cups and carry mouth guards in this place, in case we get in a fight. We could make a big point of letting the rednecks see us putting in mouth guards for intimidation purposes.
Of course that was then (20 yrs ago) and this is now. That would have been a bad idea, not knowing who might have had a gun or something.:D
I know one thing, if I did get in a fight I'd feel a lot better wearing a cup and mouth guard when it happened.

Just thought that was a funny change of stance.

Maybe it's a bike-thing I don't understand....
Do the guys on the tour de france wear mouth guards?
Do olympic bike riders wear mouth guards?
Does the average person who rides on weekends wear a mouth guard?
Why was Bush wearing a mouth guard?

more like a "realization" at what a ridiculous argument this is.
I'd much rather discuss Kerry's Dem. Convention that's costing the state of MA 50 million bucks at last estimate.
-
50 million bucks?!!! What do you mean?!!

Well, Bush is set to give a "major" speech Monday night....
Can you say... MAKE-UP!
I guess we'll see.
Btw, it's aim is to elevate the mood of the public.
In what may prove to be an interesting experiment, I'd like you all to note your mood on Monday morning. One is bad, 5 is good.
Then, on Tuesday morning, do the same and note the change.
Who needs prozac when ya gotz BOOSH?
-
Just for comparison's sake, Martlet, what's the price-tag on the Republican convention?

I saw that. I was referring to the estimated economic loss (http://www.boston.com/news/politics/conventions/articles/2004/05/22/convention_bust_may_reach_50m/) , though, not the price tag.
Then the incredible inconvenience with a large portion of the city, including the major commuter roads/rails, being shut down.
Just for comparison's sake, Martlet, what's the price-tag on the Republican convention?
I'm not sure. I honestly haven't heard. I'll look around. I'm assuming it's not as bad since NYC is larger, so even if there are road closures it won't affect the whole city, and the Dems haven't been throwing it around.
Maybe it just hasn't been released yet.
-
from the Boston Herald
The Herald reported yesterday security costs for the four-day event at the FleetCenter are soaring and expected to exceed $40 million.
Is Kerry still thinking about delaying the acceptance a month? Last I heard he was thinking of internet voting a month after the convention and accepting then so that the 75 MM price cap on the fall campaign would equalize demo spending with Bush.
The networks wish to cover the convention will be lessened considerably if they are not going to nominate at a nomination convention. So if they are not going to get a few hours of daily prime time for a week, why are the gathering at all?
-
It could be brilliant.
Cuz it's wacky.
Millions tuned in... "Will he? Won't he?"
Then finally he steps up and says "Maybe".
An historic aberation.
A month and several million dollars later, he says "Sure."
-
I wish they wouldn't. It's going to make work impossible for me.
-
It wasn't a mouth guard. It was a muzzle.
Actually, that sounds like a heckuva fall. Bikes are such graceful environmentally enhancing precision machines except when the slightest anomaly makes them turn on their riders.
Even now, in certain isolated mountain areas there are some wild bikes that have never been ridden.
-
What do you do, Martlet?
Just outta curiousity.
(this thread is on full hyjack alert, just so ya know. :) )
-
Thats too bad. Maybe he should get a better bike or something. Hope he is alright.
:(

I don't have seniority to get that time off, so i'm going to have to try to get through it. I'm with Romney on this, I hope he holds his ground. I really hate the inconvenience myself, but in some ways we need this to work if we ever want to someday host something like the Olympics. The 2000 DNC was a 147 million dollar net gain for LA area businesses, so it is yet to be seen, that article seemed to point out businesses that would not benefit from the DNC. So time will tell I guess, but I was all for the CC because it was built to bring big events to the hub(although a political convention is not what I had in mind), so I guess I would be a hypocrite to complain about it. But the thought of being stuck in traffic in Boston on what very well could be a 100 degree day, sux, big time. Ok, i'm a hypocrite.
I might have to go see Dr. summeroff

or maybe he should learn how to ride better or something...as long as the bike is in working condition it doesnt really make much difference (in circumstances where a person could fall and not lose face) if its a trek or a ccm...

you have to speak to republicans in their own language. when talking to a republican the proper term is flip-flopping. they say it so much they sound like seagulls.
many people think an open mind is a good thing, but when dealing with republicans if they see where someone changed their mind or offered a different opinion on a similar subject, they race to be the first to yell "FLIP-FLOP", then the rest chime in and repeat it like seagulls on a herring "flip-flop,flip-flop,flip-flop,flip-flop,flip-flop,flip-flop,flip-flop,flip-flop"
they'll never understand your point if you don't talk like the rest of the group or herd or flock.

I agree...you're wrong on this but I agree with your point although I think you're wrong.
(Just keeping an open mind)

I've been contracted to a telecom firm for awhile now designing IP architecture, buying, selling, and leasing traffic, etc etc.

Now when Bush is wounded will he get a "Purple Heart" or maybe something for his courage ?
After all he's a Prez and thus in the frontlines 24/7 and there's still a war against terrorism going on and as some guys pointed out earlier US is practically shoveling "Purple Hearts" for everyone who gots a stich because some minor wounds (case Kerry).
