Title: Favorite P38 skin/painjob
Post by: Howitzer on May 22, 2004, 06:44:21 PM
I have a new model ... a P-38J and I wanted some better ideas as to how to paint it.  So, if you think the 38 is a beautiful plane and have a favorite color picture, please post it.  I would really appreciate it, I don't want to paint this thing like it looks on the box  :D

Thanks,

The original plane:

A diecast to look at:

A page with the Duxford P-38 lost a few years back, several nice pics:

Would make a real nice historical choice. Plane and pilot held a couple of records for sorties/missions on original engines and airframe without repairs.

Looks like "Tangerine", which is the P-38 that belongs to to Jack Erickson and is kept at Tillamook Museum, the old Tillamook NAS. That paint job and such actually belongs on an early model as the real "Tangerine" was Erv Ethell's early model P-38. But it is a nice looking plane anyway. Erv Ethell, Jeff Ethell's father, was credited with 4 109's confirmed, all in one fight. Odds were some 20:1 against Erv Ethell in that fight.
