Man I’ve had a fun day! We had big rains in Ohio last night. I awoke at 2:00 am to a gurgling water sound coming from below. I wandered down to the basement to find water trickling through the basement windows. I woke up my wife and in-laws and checked out the backyard. It was a bog and water couldn’t find its way around the house to the lower front yard and street. I pondered the problem for a few minutes; I seriously needed a drainage ditch from the back to the front. My solution was to go “mud bogging” in my 4x4 van. A few wheel spinning passes through the saturated lawn and I had my drainage ditch, and a spare! The two wheel-width rivers relieved the water table and within a few minutes the water stopped coming into the house. The basement never got too deep; the sump pump did its job. Many areas around town flooded for the first time ever, some streets were even closed.
