Just filled the old 98 Dodge up with gas as the fuel warning light as been on for the last few days. :) The bill? $67.95 for 28 gallons of 87. Our state has the lowest gas prices in the nation (last time I checked).....but damn thats alot.
No real point to this post.....just thought I'd whine about something. :)
-
Drove past Panamint Springs on Friday. 87 octane was priced at $3.10 per gallon. :)
-
Ummmm..no. If you had gone to the Shell station down the road and filled it with 87 octane it would have cost you $56. Still can even find it for $1.90 at some places.
-
damn that is alot of money.
lucky i dont have a car (yet)
-
If you vote for democrats you may never have one b17.
lazs
-
Yeah, I'd like to have 2 B-17's.
VOTE BUSH '04!!!
-
28 gallons = 106 liters
Price of say, unleaded = 82p
106 * 0.82 = £87
£ 87 converts to $155.56
and there's talk of fuel bein £1.00 ($1.8 ish) a litre soon. (3.78 litre's to the gallon)

a vote for a democrat is a vote for higher mileage standards, alternative powerplant and energy research. Those hybrids, hydrogen and solar vehicles are going to get here a lot quicker if the dems are elected.

Yeah, but the damn demos will tax the crap out of you so that you can't afford it... but don't fret, that crack ho on the street corner who pipes kids out every 10 mos will have two with the welfare check the demos give her. Meanwhile, us hard workers will be paying $4.25 a gallon as we work our way into government dependancy and poverty!
Yeah, vote democrat, hasten the US's decline....
-
yeah Gas prices SUCK!
No fun to drive for the fun of it any more. All you hear are dollar signs when you turn the key :(

what do you make of this:
http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-welfaremothers.htm
Summary
Welfare mothers actually have less of an economic incentive to have children than nonwelfare mothers. Studies have not been able to find a correlation between family size and the size of welfare benefits. Welfare families are virtually the same size as nonwelfare families; indeed, both have been declining over the decades. The New Jersey "family cap" experiment, which denies extra benefits to mothers who have more children, appears to have no effect on the welfare birthrate.

We've been through this before; I'm sure some of yas are old enough to remember it too.
That time I actually bought a Chevy Vega and kept it two years. Ugh! What a lousy car.
Replaced it with a '76 280Z. :D
Like last time, this will lead to change in the automotive marketplace. Given the new tech available, it's probably going to be a good thing over all.
No pain, no gain.
(I think I'll start looking for an econobox to drive around town for the next two years while I consider what a nice reincarnation of that Z car would be. ;))
-
Gas is still cheaper than bottled water.... Not that your car cares....
-

I think that's the core of the problem. Most of them aren't old enough to remember. Gas was $.34 cents a gallon when I started driving.

Welcome in Europe ;) !

how about this:

Our regression estimates generally do not provide evidence that family cap policies reduce the incidence of out-of-wedlock births among single, less-educated women with children.

I know I'll sound like a fanboy, but I'm pretty sure that Lazs would be able to fine-tune that Prius so that the average ricer in a Civic would only see his red lights...
On a side note, Diablo, Morpheus....is this an avatar contest? Where do I register? ;)

Right before Rommel started running around N. Africa??

Just in 1997 I was paying less than a dollar in Ft. Dix.
WE NEED MORE TURKEYFUEL

I was just a wee lad when in the 70's:
-- Middle Eastern countries, wrought with long standing religious and political conflict, cut off exports of petroleum to many Western Nations.
- A Republican President (Nixon) in a pointless war in another country(Vietnam)
-Gas guzzling cars became undesirable, and many Americans turned to buy smaller European and japanese cars(the leaders in hybrid technology)

Voting democrat or republican will have no affect on what you drive, or your choices of what you can drive. Stop being such ignorant tards.

Closer and closer to 1.50 $ double-:(
1.44 this morning.

Here in Hawaii its $2.62 for Premium. and about 2 bucks for regular. It cost's me 45 dollars to fill up my truck which holds about 17 gallons. Its rediculous.
-
If you are so concerned about gas prices ride the bus. You put a double screwing to the Oil companies that way. Most city busses now run on LNG...a 100% American fuel.
(No RPM, I'd rather whine about gas prices while drinking my $8 Double Mocha Latte sitting in my BMW on the freeway doing 4mph in bumper to bumper traffic listening to Rush (I'm clean NOW) Limbaugh watching those losers on the bus do 60 in the HOV lane.)
-
I pay 1.87 for reg gas in suburban Dallas
I have a 15 gal tank and I get 30mpg LOL
But I used to have a F-250 with the V-10 and it had a 8" lift kit and 38.5" swamper tires LOL about 7mpg OUCH feel sorry for the owner of that thing now.
-
"If" fuel prices in America keeps on climbing, will that mean that the market for SUV's and trucks gets smaller? or are they gonna sell in the same volumesbecause they are a big part of American culture and lifestyle?

I think It would take some time .
But if after say a year of high gas prices and they dont look to fall I would bet the SUV market would feel the pinch.

I doubt it, people are dumb. They will continue to buy their hemis and then complain that it cost to much to fill up the tank.
-
Here in Jersey lowest price I found was $187 for just plain old regular... well unleaded regular.
In spite of the increase in prices SUV sales are experiancing a boom.
Go figure
Funny how we dont see the "No blood for oil" argument being raised anymore.
Though myself personally I have no problem with it.
Mankind has gone to war for just about everything else.
And without it everything in this country would very soon come to a screaching halt.

Ford, Chrysler Boosting SUV Rebates (http://www.edmunds.com/news/regularnews/articles/102022/article.html)
Date Posted 05-13-2004
With sales of big SUVs expected to fall as gas prices continue to rise, Detroit's automakers are boosting incentives on their large sport-utility vehicles.
Yeah, people are so stupid and won't change to the point that Detroit is boosting rebates.
But then, how could the manufacturers know more about demand than say..... somebody on this BBS.
I hope the "Big Three" have someone monitoring this board so they know the way it really is out here.

LOL. You now have a GEO, and sold your truck. After selling 30 cars a month, at 10K plus? Bad planning.
SUV owners drive them because they CAN. You can't.
This is extra funny to me. Thanks, TxWobble.

Maybe Bush should start war with another oil producing Mideast country. That would fix things!!
Some Mideast country out there has to have WMDs!!

I don't see what you guys are complaining about. You wanna know how much it costs to fill up my plane with 60 gals of 100 low lead? It burns 12 gallons per hour; the fuel costs on average $3.20 per gallon. Do the math!
Wolf

I'm betting that you're not going to find much sympathy.
Dood... you have a plane!

j/k....:D rock on!

Oh man... if you would just dress up in a sniper outfit and take a picture next to your wifes car, my intardnet year would be complete.

My boat has a 125 gal. gas tank and burns 10 gal/hr.
The tow truck is a 1-ton GMC dually w/454 @ 9MPG when NOT towing. Not going far with either this year. :(
cars
-
Ok... let's get it all in perspective here...
Adjusted for inflation, the prices are much better than that 70's one plus... in the 70's the cars were crap. the democrat mandated smog devices were crap and acutally killed fuel economy..
what was the result? earlier muscle cars got cheap.. smart guys bought em and stashed em till gas was plentifull and cheap again and the silly smog laws were lifted.
Now... voting one way or the other isn't gonna change prices much at the pumps... That is true... what it will do is make you drive half finished tech and VERY boring cars... mandating fuel economy will simply limit interesting cars... that is what voting democrat will get yu.... hydrogen? why/how would democrats change that? does kerry and klan have secret tech? No? Maybe they would offer "corporate welfare" to corporations to develop these tech? I am sure GM would be glad to take the money the government extorts from us. Maybe a government research center? LOL.
Conversly... the gas prices themselves... the market.. will change what we drive. Prices high enough... a lot of strange folks will be driving the half baked tech around... gas prices stay high... the half baked tech will get a little better and the cars that use it will get a little more useable and reliable... even longer and... they might even get fun.
Good example... when the dems in CA mandated a certain level of "alternative" (their favorite word meaning sucky) fuel vehicles... we ended up with eggheads and weirdos driving half baked electric cars that no one even sees anymore.
no.. vote for dems and have the government interfere and mess everything up or just let the market do the right thing...
and.. Watch the prices on those vipers and vettes and hemis and pick one up to stash.
My elky get's about 12-13 mpg.. I would rather drive half as much or a third as much than be bored.

How about a 1500 gallon tank, and a cruising fuel rate of 40 gallons per hour, per engine. At least it burns diesel...
