Title: Video / audio question
Post by: midnight Target on May 23, 2004, 07:09:46 PM
OK got a cool surround sound system for me entertainment. Now I got great sound from the DVD through an optical audio line. Question is... is there a way to get surround from a TV show? No digital output from the TV, but it has lots of RCA jacks that are driving me crazy!

Maybe send TV audio through the DVD player?

Uhm, depends on the TV show. Typical broadcasts, nope.

HBO and Cinemax, prolly Showtime too, say "Available in Surround Sound 5.1 and HDTV where available"... so if its available to you, it should work.

Otherwise, I don't think any other station runs 5.1 audio.

The question is.. how do I hook up the TV to the surround sound without a digital audio cable?

MT does your system have more than one input.

Usually a reciever has multiple inputs....CD DVD DAT LD...ect

Are you using a dish/cable box?  You'll get surround sound but It will never be the same as if you're watching a DVD.

Most TVs have an audio out that is actually attinuated by the volume control.  Either use that or if you have a dish/cable box go from their.

You should be able to run RCA cables from your TV to your surround system MT .
I think from audio out on the TV to audio in on the surround system or something like that.

I have such a mess of wires behind my TV that If I had to redue  it I would be lost.

Run the red and white from your tv audio/out to your sound systems audio/in .
now if you hear nothing check this : be sure your reciever is set to play from the audio/in that u connected your TV too. This is the most common brain fart people have. There should be a input selection on either you remote or on the unit CD/DVD/stereo/tv Ect. select Tv
