So basically NASCAR gets a bad rap because it's perceived that the typical NASCAR fan is only there to see wrecks whereas in F1 it's only a great race if there is a lot a wrecks?  Not trying to start a flame war as I love both series but anytime there aren't wrecks in F1 its called a boring race.  Passing is, obviously, the most important thing but I don't understand the dichotomy of this perception of the two types of racing.

I know Monaco has a history of, well, no passing in it's races so I guess it was an exciting race due to the crashes.  I've said it before and I'll say it again; Spa a few years back was the funniest thing I have ever seen in professional motorsports.  Not because of the huge wrecks but because of what the announcers were saying after the wreck.

Thanks for the link Nilsen.

Poor Schummi, I guess he's human after all.

Still, I wish I could have seen it.

Personally i dont like nascar because its oval racing... if they could just run on a "normal" track I would prolly wach alot more of it.

Hehehe, funny anecdote.

I was at The Outpost Tavern in Webster (you've seen it in the movie Space Cowboys) during one of thier open blues jam nights.  I met a couple from Scotland who come to Houston twice a year for holiday.  We were discussing the merits of motorsports and throwing back a few pints.  I asked him if he liked NASCAR and in his thickest Scotish bur he said, "Oh?  Jeff Gorrrr-ton?  'E's grrrrrrrreat!!!"

I dunno, I found it hilarious.

It wasn't the crashes that made the race the best F1 race in about 10 years, it was the exciting fight to the finish line by two drivers not associated by  Williams, McLaren or Ferrari.

It was Jarno Trulli's first win, one of Button's best finishes, and a very subdued  Ruebens rounding out the top three.

Schumacher to locked up his LF tire in the tunnel behind the pace car, causing Juan Pablo to piledrive him. Now Schumi is pissed at Juan, Juan is pissed at Schumi.

And how about that bonehead move by Alonso in the tunnel?  LOL, he ruined a 1-2 Renault finish for Flavio.

LOL, check out this out. Seems almost every driver is PO'd at someone today.

I can't believe Schumi was trying to blame Montoya for the accident.... warming up your brakes in a tunnel, on a corner, with another F1 car very close behind you isn't a very bright idea.

He wasn't just "warming up", he hit the brakes so hard that they locked up.  Then when Montoya went inside to avoid him, he moved inside to (I can only guess) block Montoya!

Nothing to do with crashes, just nice to see a really good race between 2 drivers (what was the result .7 secs difference or something like that).  Very exciting last 14 laps or so.

The ring is next week, I am hoping that will be a good race as well.

Yeah, Jarno said some stuff about how he was taking it easy the last few laps in the press conference.  BS.  All it took was one lapped car at a bad spot on the track and JB could have got past him.  Great race.

PS IMHO the low level camera shots of the cars coming through the end of the piscine (swimming pool) chicane is as good as it gets in auto racing.  I would give a nut to have a seat at that camera position.  Did anybody see the one where Trulli made like 3 corrections on the wheel, to get through there, all in like a half or a third of a second?

Monaco is my favourite circuit, quite simply nothing near it!  A guy I used to work with was fortunate to go over there and stay in one of the hotels overlooking the circuit.  Lucky bastige! :)

F1 is close right now. Some of the teams just need a bit of this or that and they could be winning. After watching Monoco I think some of the smaller teams cars are simply not as well constructed as teh top teams cars.

Good drive by the top three considering Rubens had mechanical difficulties. Trullis car was hooked to the pavement, great drive by him. Hope he repeats it in the near future. Buttons/Bar-Honda/Sato has a good team this year. I think they can win some races.

Ya, that was strange.

Poor Alonso, but that was a pretty ordinary manoveur...mind you I think Ralf had gear box trouble and was going fairly slow through what should've been flat out under the tunnel.

The quotes of the race:

Quote
Calm down. It's not my ****ing fault. I don't even know what he did. It's his **** up." - Ralf Schumacher about Alonso's crash

Quote
As you say in English, **** happens - Micheal Schumacher
