It is a popular subject now, lots of new books etc.
In 50 years will it be? In 50 years will things like AH still be around?
I still think it will, WW2 aircraft were fantastic machines, machines can not match now in pure workmanship.

I am sure there will be plenty of people obsessing over ww2 and hitler in 2054.

I bet it will. They're fantastic machines. However, it may be more of an "old man" thing. My grandfather was into civil war history, which I've always found boring on the battlefield level.
Maybe there's some kind of generation thing there. As he was a "fan" of the war his grandparents told him about, I am a fan of the war my grandparents told me about. 50 years old seems to be a good time lapse - the recent memory of the screwups is gone, and the historians have done their work romanticizing it.
-
I hope so.
I'm planning to be WWII US Naval Historian next year after completely First Semster College and I will keep talking about WWII til I died. :D

The Civil War seems to have kept people interested. Why not WW2?
-
Whether WWII will be popular in 50 years is a thing I've thought about alot. I think it still will be popular, but possibly other wars may kinda take its place in being the most popular. (not saying theres gonna be WWIII or anything...)
-
Sure will.
We need a good Civil War game from the Il-2 guys.
-
No But im sure I will be to you BBS queens LOL.

I'm sure WW2 will be popular subject in 50 years ... just not as important as WW3!

exactly...thats what i was trying to say...just what you said was worded better...

talking about civil war has anyone played sid meiers gettysburg? I've allways been a fan of his games CIV CIV3 ect....wanting to check out his pirates game as well.
On another note I think wars fade just as people do and if there's still a civilization in 50 years it might just eaqual a paragraph in a history book. My dad is a big time civil war buff and I'm into it but not as much as he is....

Guns
That is what I was thinking cause I do not really like reading much about the civil war.
I think WW2 will be popular longer do to the sheer scope and the coolness factor of the weaponry.
I think thats why the civil war does nothing for me, it was still a primitive war, not tanks, no real MGs, no planes. The bad guys are still americans ETC..

Yes, Because during WW2 our countries came together like no other time in history. It probably will never happen again. A time when the world was united against tryany.

WWII weapons still can use it again if War break again or whatever is needed. My friends told me that someday that old WW2 weapons still a weapons that can use again and he's probably right about that.

I hear there's a caisson simulator in the works, but they're still working on the damage model.

Then I guess its a good thing the Navy still has claim on all those old Corsairs rotting underwater. You never know - we run out of F-18s we may have to rebuild some F4Us.

i'm surprised there is not more enthusiasm for the American Civil War....I saw a really great presentation on A&E (or the History Channel) and was captivated for all 3 hours. I'd like to see that documentary again!
