they detract from the game and seem so mechanical.
and now there are so many silly wind layers it makes flying above 10k virtually a nightmare for dogfighting
-
i have to agree that the transitions between the wind layers are way to narrow thus the changes are unrealistic..
-
Agree.
I like the idea of wind effects, but the transition seems too abrupt. (Not that I would know how it is in RL.)
-
Yup, countless good fights have been ruined for me due to the wind layers, one or 2 several K away from eachother is nice but not every 2k above 10k.
Please HTC :)

I agree, and have long argued that these wind layers seem too artificial and mechanical in nature.
Dropping eggs on bases located at alt is a nightmare because you KNOW you'll be knocked off course just by a nudge, but there'slittle you can do, but watch the altimeter and go "and NOW".
-
I agree. A wind layer that only goes up? Increases your lift no matter what direction you are going? But only over 10k? Its simply an effect for the sake of creating one.
I've wondered if anyone has learned to actually use the thermal layer for some kind of advantage. I suppose if you played with it long enough, you could learn to do something like accellerate through it... or use it in a rope-a-dope or something like that. Does anyone do anything like that?

I use it to my target's advantage, by attempting to aim and being blown off target, thus missing him by a good 400 yards.
Aaahhh yes... talk about fun!
Seriously though, I don't care. :)

If the game is going to have wind, it shouldn't only push on the nose of the aircraft.
-
ya gotta love that one at 12k....your climbing through 11900 feet at a decent angle, then 12k...nose zooms up to about 60 degrees.....hmm...sure is realistic
-
Vertical winds in clear air are a little strange and they do detract from the experience.
Now.... 'normal' horzional winds at realistic speeds would do a lot to 'add' to the flying experience.
So why not just rotate them 90 degrees :)
-
naaa the real air are more nasty , much more
i know many of u dontlike it becose it disturbe the perfect mathematic bunce
i say dont tuch it ! and ad EVEN more nasty things , how about a turbulences after the aircraft ?
-
Wind layer is a little annoying, I'd suggest making it more variable, as they are in real life. As the time presses on during the day, randomize them or perhaps make them more drastic in the storm clouds and such.
Use Cessna drivers know to watch out for those tall, towering cummulus clouds :) And, most pilots that do a pre-flight check for the winds aloft forecast to choose what altitude will give us the a tailwind, headwind and such.
But, this would be a reality modification, surely something controversial :)
I think we should have it, but having it *always* at 12,000 ft is just way too predictable. Play with it, I say!

Yep, randomized wind gusts just like Real Life would be much preferred over the current system.
