When I was really young I did not need glasses.
When I was in grade 5, I discovered that my friend could read 2 lines lower on a vision chart than I could.
I first needed glasses in grade 7. I remember going WOW when the optomitrist put them on me for the first time. I had never realized what I was not seeing.
By grade 9 I had contacts and basically wore them full time. In high school I played waterpolo and could not ever see what guys had white caps on or blue caps on without my contacts in. I could not throw a pass without them on because I could not tell if a teamate was looking at me or not. I lost quite a few contact lenses in the pool.
One night driving home from a workout after I had lost my contacts in the pool I could not even see the road signs or traffic lights well enough to know where I was. I followed another car until I got on the highway, without him leading me I would have gotten lost.
Fast forward 20 years. I just passed my Class 3 medical for flying with perfect vision. I have never had corrective surgery.
All I did is stop wearing contacts about 10 years ago. I was working on oil rigs overseas and could not wear them with my hands getting so dirty and greasy. Also they were impossible to get in the country I was living in. Each year after I stopped wearing them my eyes seemed to be getting better.
About 5 years ago I realized I could read traffic signs from quite far away again.
About 4 years ago I asked the driving center to retest my eyes and I had good enough vision to get the corrective lenses restriction removed from my license.
It is totally a mystery to me how my eyes have managed to fix themselves.
Has anyone else had a simmilar experience?

What kinda diet do you have? Physical exercise? Your age (about)?? Parents/cyblings where glasses??
I have never heard of such. I dont wear glasses or contacts but as of the last few months I have notice my vision in my right eye was not as good as my left.. When I was younger in highschool I had a accident where I had to have my right eyelid stitched up.. Have been wondering if that was the cause of my weak right eye.. I refuse to get glasses or contacts though. Somehow in my mind I believe I can 'retrain' my eye to focus properly..

Nothing really abnormal I think.
You were suffering of myopia and now presbyopia .
Presbyopia corrected your vision (I'm not a specialist* but something like that happened to my father :))
* so don't ask me to explain :)

I know exactly what your are talking about. Every year I take a trip into the Minnesota wilderness. I only take my glasses and only use them when I have to.
After spending two weeks on a lake fishing without my glasses, I find that my vision is actually getting better from being forced to focus at far away objects.
Course, as soon as I get back to civilization, in go the contacts and I'm blind again.

I had about the same thing happen only in reverse. ;)

I slipped and fell in the shower, hit my head and got knocked cold.
When I came to, I could read and speak Mandarin Chinese.
Is that something similar?

When I was 18, it would take 2 hands to put my morning wood back in my shorts, Now at 46 ( today) :) I can do it with 1 hand. Am I getting stronger with age?
