Title: Worst and Best Car Commercials
Post by: FUNKED1 on May 28, 2004, 03:03:38 PM
Inspired by DiabloTX

Worst
5 BMW various "Our car will save you if you drive like ****" commercials.
4 Chevy Trucks "Like a Rock".  Somehow a rock is not my idea of mechanical perfection...
3 Ford Trucks with some hick singing country song about trucks.
2 Subaru Crocodile Dundee campaign
1 Mazda, Zoom Zoom.  Somebody please feed that kid and the Dell dude and Harry Potter into a chipper.

Best
5 Chrysler Cordoba "Rich Corinthian Leather" w/Ricardo Montalban
4 Honda S2000 Michael Andretti & Son
3 Joe Isuzu
2 Ford GT drifting at Thunderhill
1 Acura Integra with Ayrton Senna McLaren

Best car commercials I ever saw were the BMW "Mini Movies" from a couple years ago. Looks like Detroit is going that route now, hyping the new GTO in a film with Dennis Hopper.

Forgot about that one.  Another classic.

FUNKED, good list as well.  Joe Isuzu was probably my favorite of all time in terms of comedy.

They wasted his character in the rehash commercials of a couple of years ago.

Best-

by far- The Trunk Monkey

and for the local guys, the old Thomason commercials.  where they are talking about the old muscle cars we used to drive "they took slightly more fuel to move than the space shuttle.  I mean these cars didn't even have carburetors.  just a monkey, under the hood, throwing buckets of gas into the engine."

worst-
by far, the Boots Williams ford commercials when I lived in KC. (KC guys, is that guy still around?)

or any used car commercial where some dork, in a plaid suit with his shoes matching the belt, screaming at me at the top of his lungs at 2am.   does he really think that his yelling on the tv and waking me up is going to motivate me to come see him in person.  if it actually got me to go to his lot, it likely wouldn't be the visit he'd been going for.

In all honesty, yellow wasn't the first choice. I bought it late in the model year. Wanted silver, but got to choose between white or yellow.

Mine is silver. Black is also a great color for Xterras.

My current favorite is the Porsche Cayenne commercial where the little kid is eating dinner with mom&dad.  He's playing with a green bean on the end of his fork "driving" it through an imaginary canyon road made of mashed potatos on his plate.  His dad looks over disapprovingly as he makes engine and squealing tire sounds.  In frustration Dad says, "HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD YOU...accelerate at the apex!"  The kid indignantly responds, "I was, Dad."

All time favorite has to be the BMW films "The Driver" where Madonna is tossed about in the backseat of an M5.

I like the Honda commercial that shows owners who resemble their cars.
