Okay, I had a 'Rolex Moment' several months ago about some alternatives to Channel 1 and now might be a good time to dust them off and present them.
Level 1.
When a sortie is finished and the player returns to the tower, he is presented with a selection of comments or messages that can be clicked and sent to players he scored a victory against during the last sortie. Alternately, a player killed can also send a message to the victor. The option to do this would be available from the clipboard and the database entry is flushed after another sortie starts.
The messages would set by HTC and could be as simple as a or "Well Done!" to some humorous but harmless zingers, like emoticons. Easier and faster than typing.
Level 2.
So, you like to talk trash? Want to shoot down some lunatic conservative or fanatic liberal? Then it's time to get out your wallet and play in the Ultimate Arena!
Registered subscribers can create a Paypal account with HTC. The amount in the account determines the maximum amount that any match can be played for. A '$' icon would appear on the AH roster to indicate that the player has an established account.
In the Ultimate Arena, a player sends an invitation to an opponent (which could be negotiated via text chat) that specifies:
1. Aircraft type, fuel and armament load-out.
2. Starting base height (only participants can up from the bases).
3. The match conditions (i.e. 1 sortie or best of 3, 5, 7, 9 or 11 sorties for a match).
4. The amount.
The invitation popup would have the match details and when the accept button is clicked, both parties are placed on their respective runway. The fight is on and guns are hot.
Basic Rules:
HTC would complete the automated paypal transaction after the match is finished. HTC would also deduct a reasonable handling fee for each transaction to defer costs of creating and operating the system.
Whomever dies first loses the sortie.
In a 2-man team match, both team members of losing team are killed first.
You disco, you lose the sortie.
The X mile-wide 'lanes' would have hard walls on both sides.
Players may stop the match before clicking the 'Ready' button for another sortie in the match and the match will be saved and available to be continued at a later time. A player may also elect to forfeit a match. All matches must be completed within 30 days (with the match $ amount in escrow) or the player leading at the time saved will be credited for the match from the losing players account.
Anyway... those are some basic rules that particpants would agree to at the time of registration. And just in case you are wondering, no, this is not gambling and there are no legal restrictions prohibiting this. Paypal is international so currency exchange is automatically done and similar companies have been doing this for years.
It could be as little as $2 or as much as you can afford.
So, what do you think?

Sounds like many Ah players need a special radio room. Oh Wait..there already is such a thing. Its call a Chat Room. They are pasted all over the internet, and are a wonderful place for such nonsense. Are we playing a Game, a War Sim or Fighter Sim? Or are we bumping our gums to hear our heads rattle? This whole mess seems commical to me. Such blabber about the ability to converse with the nme or not, just seems contradictory. Seem's to me that they just need to "Gita frikin room" A Chat Room. :D Start with AOl or something like that.
A time and a place for everything.

If insulting or the NME improves one's "virtual aviation greatness" ? Please enlighten us. Second thought. Save your breath. Im sure youll need it to acheive " Virtual greatness." Ch1 (in the MA) might be used 1/10 of 1% of the time to share info pertainent to improve ones "Virtual Greatness" And thats a maybe.

I notice fewer people on in general. Did you think it would shake out that way? I also notice it seems sterile - sort of like watching a football game with the sound down. To each their own - I hate it though and have returned to AH1 because of it.

welp...there were 46 on yesterday at about 6:00PM 56 ppl in AH2 at 11:45 pm last night. and there are 49 in AH2 right now. I personally have never seen more than 63 players in AH2 in the last 2 months. Must just be the time of the day or night you were there. The average is still there. I have noticed a much more freindly tone. :)

Mugz, you bring up many good points. But at the same time you also bring thoughts into my head.
With all due respect here we go.

We had one. It could be turned on and off very easily. Also we had 100 more that could serve as VOX and text to use across countries.

I play this game because of the tramendous amount of fun I seem to have on a regualar basis. Fun that comes not only from flying, fighting, capturing bases ect.
But the kinds of things I enjoy most. Meeting people, new people from all over the world, getting to know them and almost becoming good friends with some, just as one would in real life.
I enjoy talking to these people and shooting the breeze with them, and with Ch1 doing so was much easier. You didnt have to select a channel to tune to, just so that you could comunicate over an open line.
Also, I can't help to think that many, including some of the most important people here, are forgetting the fact, the simple fact that this is just as you refered to it, is just a game
If it is not fun, enjoyable, and fufilling to play. Why keep playing it?
I amost feel like the ones who have been around for a few years, those whom have become acustomed to Aces High, and who have stayed with them, are being over looked for the need to bring in a new type of player into the game. Pyros post gave me a hint of that feeling. I hope my feeling was wrong. I'd like to think it is.
As we talked the other day Mugz, you and I came to the topic of AH and how it has changed over the past couple of years. Not so much the game itself, but the players who have over time developed attitudes on Ch1 and through out the game. The over alol "mood" of the MA has changed a great deal through out the past few years. You said it and so did I. I think it sums things up greatly.
I think much of this is due to the lack of moderators with in the game. I dont understand why they were done away with as they have been. They were doing a great job as far as "policing" the MA and keeping the "mood" to a respectable one. I think now, more than ever HTC needs to add moderators back into the game. The events over the past few weeks have proven this.
Aces High is a place I go to get away from the strains of real life. After working hard all day, I like to come home and turn on AH, talk with the friends that I've made, have great fights and great fun and log off. Right now, the way things are going, its becoming less and less fun to log into AH2. And if AH2 is what we are going to end up with after they kill AH1, I am left wondering if I will continue to keep my acount open.

You bring up good points too bud. Only problem is, the points you bring up a rarely used on ch1. And we still have the option of tuning to 200+ for international com. I dont understand why the ch1 lovers cant be the ones to "Select" the channel for a change. Nope.... They wont have it. Just proves the selfishness of most of those kicking and screeming about the removal of ch1 . Foot Note. No One asked HT to remove ch1. We would have continued to go thru the squelch list at log in as it has became the norm for many of us. But now that HT has made a change, some of us are just glad to see the change of the order in which things are going to have to be done. I was going to Pick quote by Quote and go thru the BS of pointing out the obvious. But I am taking the high road and going to keep things light. Great talk we had the other day. Bout Time!!

Well, I am a firm believer in not trying to fix things that aren't broken. Ch1 was working fine. What spoiled the pot was a few bad apples. With the demise of effective moderators the MA has gone from good to bad very rapidly. This may be HTCs way of dealing with the problem for right now until the final version of AH2 is released. Only time will tell.
The mood since Ch1 was done away with has changed greatly in AH2. Good or bad is in the eyes of the beholder. But it has changed.
See no evil here no evil.
There was nothing stopping those who did not wish to see ch1 from turning it off.
With it gone now, I believe we should be entitled with a way of turning it on if we wish to do so.
always
