I watched a few of the episodes. I would loved to have seen the whole series. I like shows that get into the heads of the people on them by following them through stressful situations. You see what makes people tick and what makes them who they are.

We tend to think looks are mainly genetic. We really only can control our weight somewhat and the rest is up to our genes. I think that the Swan showed that how we look is mainly due to attitude and effort.

The episodes I saw were the ones where the women would not follow up the post op exercises and diet properly.

It showed how their pre show bad looks were not just genetic but also due to their attitude, and how their bad attitude will more than likely cause them to revert to their old ways and looks not long in the future.

One girl had the nastiest teeth I had ever seen. There is not an excuse for bad teeth if you brush them and get checkups there is no way your teeth could get as bad as hers. Here teeth were bad because she was too lazy to look after them. She was also cheating on the diet. What chance will she have of ever getting her self in shape and maintaining it when she cannot even do so for the few months the show was being shot?

One other girl kept refusing to cooperate. If they asked her to put her chin strap on she would refuse. Same if they asked her for an interview. Later the psychologist said that it was her way of controlling everyone around her. She would get angry then refuse to do things that were only for her benefit. Again a total head case who will probably go through live miserable and blaming her failures on those around her (or bad luck) when it is totally due to her poor attitude.

A few of the women had great attitudes and looked much better after the procedures. I think the biggest improvements in their looks was due to the exercise and diet program they were on. The cosmetic surgery only fixed some problems. The exercise and diet was what was making them look healthy and fit.

I thought several looked obviously surgical in the face afterward. It's a weird "skin too thin" look across the nose and cheek area.

I thought the Army chick had a great attitude , but I knew the red head was going to win from the get go- something about the TV spots gave me that feeling right off. I thought the bellydancer was a one of the best transformations .

That they'd feel so poorly about themselves that they'd hand their bodies over to complete strangers to tinker with, while willingly being separated from their families for several months.

I gotta agree with SOB on this one.  that has got to be the most sad, degrading TV show I've ever seen.

"you look like hell.  would you like to be on tv?  we'll fix all your ugly flaws so you look presentable, then you can compete with the other pathetic, low self-esteem girls we rounded up from all over this country, while the nation watches on their TV's and judges your every flaw."

I think I watched about 10 minutes of 1 episode,  then the disgust got so bad I had to change the channel.

pathetic is a real good way to describe it

Cosmetic surgery is a huge industry in the US and Canada. I have a friend who is a plastic surgeon and I am amazed at how much money some people will pay to correct a small flaw.

The culture of today is that you can buy your perfect teeth and hair and body.

However you are right they never look natural when they get their face done over in surgery. And fake breasts always look fake.

On the Swan they were wearing tons of makeup and outfits that did make them appear unnatural. Perhaps that is why they looked less than real at the end.

However some really did look much better but again they were the ones that worked like crazy in the gym.

Plus the entire "Before" was filmed without makeup, hair and was intentionally emotional for them. I also thought it sent a bad message. The whole you must have surgery to be considered an attractive women thing.

It was a big giant plastic surgeon commercial:rolleyes:

I think the experts they had on the show were really some of the best around. I have to say that I am a believer in dental cosmetic surgery now. If you have nasty teeth get them fixed. The results are amazing.

Speaking of cosmetic surgery, there was another thread on this BB a few days back on a different topic about it. Check this out.

http://www.ananova.com/news/story/s...u=news.quirkies (http://www.ananova.com/news/story/s...u=news.quirkies)

Basically a guy married a woman and then had an incredibly ugly baby. He could not believe it was his kid so he thought his wife had an affair. Turns out she had had a huge amount of plastic surgery (over 100,000 USD worth) and that she was really quite ugly before. So he sued her for deceit and won.

seems to me to be no more than a very lengthy info-mercial for plastic surgery

i've not watched the show and have no interest in it!
