Title: loyalty
Post by: 68DevilM on May 30, 2004, 01:31:30 PM
loyalty is something that is very important in a squadron, for all of you out there who stick it out during the good times and bad times i salute you. i myself have been a 68lightninglancer for almost a year now, i'd say it was my first squad but id be lying, i joined the irondogs first when i was new to the game but i left because there were only like 5 of us in it. then one day i found 68ko and joined his squad, and have never thought about moveing to a different squad since.

so again to you old ah'ers out there who have been with your squad's for years (S)

semper fi

My first squad was the 335th in late 1995, the CO was "Vigl" some old WB hands will remember him. When he disbanded the 335th almost all of us formed a new squad with Popi (popeye) as the CO. That was 1996, and we had moth, kwan, dago, adde (archer), va31, gyro, llbm, cdvr (cadaver), uni (unicorn), westy, verm, fradim, andres, vette, jetcop, spycat, hobo, and many others. The squad was called MOL back then, back when a loosely formed loose rules type of squad was NOT the norm (at least in Warbirds). The squad has been through many changes and membership has shifted quite a bit but some of us that flew together 8+ years ago still do.

EDIT: ignore the negativity of those who detract from our game...what would the BBS be without those who have nothing positive to say?

Jeez, I'm so sorry to disturb your oh-so-sincere post. So I guess you use the stall limiter too then? I mean, why not?

Oh, and Ed? Blow it out yer holier than thou butt. The point, which you seem to lack the intelligence to perceive, is that a veteran player is using a newb crutch to play "our game" and I am querying him as to why.

Now, the muppets are my home and here I plan to stay as long as Im here playing this AH.

i use auto take-off too... what's the big deal? it's not like i *can't* take off manually...

read up on BB's thoughts about "nuisance realism."  as a "old-time AW vet" you should know who and what i'm referring to.

as for loyalty...    how can one "applaud loyalty" and refuse to recognize other "online traits" such as no honor or cowardance?  always amuses me when people say it's just a game and how can there be "honor" or "bravery?" is it the same as real life? no... but it's still there, or lacking.

loyalty to a chess piece i find even more amusing.

i'm only loyal to the action.

Auto Take off / climb to target is when I:
Take a wizz,
get food,
surf/read the BB
talk to my kids,
talk to my wife,

Manual take off is a snore.

Watching squaddies die is one of the highlights in the game for me.  I love to see them die right before I shoot the guy that got them.  The other great thing is stealing their kills.

We are bastards for a reason.

Auto-take if good for when you're playing your guitar between fights. Less wear are your pedals too.

You can turn auto-takeoff OFF !?!?!?!?

I use auto-takeoff ... :(

I guess your not a real genuwine virtual pilot if you use auto-takeoff. Another sleepless night worrying about what other dweebs think of me.

I can't take too much more of this peer pressure. I'm gonna lose it soon.

I use auto take off as well Slapshot. Nothings easier than hitting the runway, then instantly walking to the fridge to grab a cold one. ;)

i have never once used auto take off, although i am not against it.
could some one tell me how to engage it?:)

As for those of you wondering where the loyalty/bravery/honour comes into it i have one thing to say:

You get from life what you put in.

i find bravery, honour and loyalty in many of the patrons of AH every day.

i also find the bastards.

take the rough with the smooth and let it be.

PS: 'AH vetran' is another term for dweebs that couldnt give up  :p

I never used auto takeoff, then i realized it was dumb not to, the only difference between the 2 is that you have to hold the stick for an extra 10 seconds (least in AH1), i to use that auto takeoff time for more important things. Cant fight in combat if you gotta take a leak.:aok

simply push stick forward, the more you push the faster you'll auto-land.

The Cactus Air Force is Celibrating its 10th Aniversary this year.

Most of our foundings memeber are still with us.   A few have gone MIA and A few have gone on to form squads like The JG27 and the Flying Circus.

Expect a Good showing of CAF at AH CON this year.  We will be gathering nearby for our 10th Aniversary party/BBQ in addition to the CON.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Texas!

I've been with the 1st Nasty since the first day I flew AH online(Oct. of 2002). HB555 was flying with them, and since I had flown with him in AW with the 555th for two years, it was easy to join them. Haven't flown with any other squad in AH.

Taking off in manual mode apparently makes one much more suave and debonair. It almost certainly increases that appealing masculinity that, without fail, makes the Swedish Bikini Team swoon. Without doubt it is the cure for the heartbreak of psoriasis, the curse of bad breath and unappealing body odor as well.

After all, taking off in AH is so difficult that only those who have risen above the existence plane of mere mortals can dare to attempt it, let alone become airborne.

I salute these giants amongst gamers!

the 352nd Iron Dogs have never been about having large numbers in our squad. Would we like to have more? Sure why not, Just about anyone is welcome to come join us. Or simply fly with us and see what we're about. But we arent overly concerned about our numbers. Like I said We're not about that And never have been.

We've always been about three things. First and foremost is Having fun together. Defending the Knights, and harrassing and disrupting the enemy and their plans as much as possible.
Often our small size (we're about 8 or 9 now) Enables us to do things that large squads often cant. Or often I see fail at.

And we've noticed that just as often Where we go Alot of times other Knights follow up.

We beleive in defending by attacking. Its what we do. So you will rarely see us simply hovering over our own feilds waiting for the enemy to come to us

Most of us have been together now for 5-7 years
The Iron Dogs itself has gone through several incarnations in that time. First starting in AOL AW as simply the "Iron Dogs". Then the "352 Pale Riders" and  "Gremlins" on Gamestorm thus the current form here known as the "352 Iron Dogs"
Through the years we have formed a special bond. We really are like a Band of brothers and there probably isnt much of anything we wouldnt do for one another either in the game or in real life.
Thats how tight we are.

Heh, interesting replies.

I don't use any of that stuff--auto takeoff, stall limiter, etc. etc.--didn't think anyone used those newb crutches past their first two weeks of playing. I suppose Toad uses it too because he thinks taking off is too hard...

Guess I was wrong, tho. Never realized so many dweebs still use it Game away!

I use it because Toad does use it. I mean, after all he has thousands of hours of commercial jet experience, and if he has a hard time rotating off the runway in AH, I can just imagine the trouble I would have.
