Title: Game Sounds
Post by: wrag on May 31, 2004, 09:35:45 PM
Anyone else losing game sounds after 1st sortie?

I lose gear, flaps, engine start and stop.

Also having the vox doing wierd stuff.  Someone talks and shows the persons handle in the upper right corner but then it stays there and sound goes like they are holding there vox button down.  Only way I can fix it is go to clipboard, setup, prefernces, gamesounds and move the slider.  Then sound returns but handle remains in upper right corner.  Stays there until someone else talks etc.

Acting like the software has forgotten where the sounds are stored.  Doesn't make any difference if I use stock sounds or Mitsu's.

Thinkin I need to download a full and forget about updates.

That happens in AH1 too..... I can usually cure it by alt-tabbing out and back in again - 2-second job.  :)

Ahh

I've never had any of these problems in AH1????

AH1 works great for me.  Not sure alt+tab works in AH2?

Yes it does, I tried it the other day.  Either that or use the Windows key to minimise AH(2).  Then when you maximise it again, be ready for a sudden rush of noise as your sound comes back!  :D

Both of those methods still crash AH2 for me.  I even tried runing MSPaint at the same time when someone suggested alt tab needed another program running to alt tab to.  None of it works for me.

Question..

have you been down loading the upgrades?

or have you downloaded the full?

Thinnkin downloading the full might cure my system problems but have slow dialup and an 80 meg download will take along time. :(

Beta 36 works fine except for the Alt Tab thing.

Used the upgrade patches until I reformated my machine around beta 33 when I downloaded the full version again.  Been using the patches since then.

Of course the question was probably directed at Flossy.

I was downloading each patch as it came, but at one point (a couple of months ago) I had to do a full install after a hard disk crash.  Can't remember what version it was up to then, but I have only patched again since.

Question directed to anyone willing to responed :)

I've  been patching since AH19910.exe.

Was wondering if a full download and install could/would fix it.

Noticed the sound loss is different with each plane!

109g10 loses startup stop engine and gear.

Il2 loses engine start n stop and engine sound and flaps.

Typhie loses gear and flaps etc....

The Atl+Tab does not work for me.  Get the tan screen and freeze up.

Changing gamma now works though.  It used to also give me tan screen and freeze up.

wrag, everything you are describing sounds like a driver or you don't have dx9.0B issue.

Dang tried to put my DxDiag report on here on but says it's too long :(

Thought I had Dx 9.0b installed.

Says version is "DirectX 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902)"

Have via 4n1 4.49 installed. (can't find anything newer)

Bios is 1009, there is a later version 1010 but haven't installed it yet.

SoundMax (onboard MB) drivers are latest from SoundMax.

Also have SB512 on machine but have it as disabled as possible (did this as a result of the reported sound problems and doesn't seem to have made any difference so thinkin of puttin it back on) but need it right now for joystick.

ATI drivers latest from ATI.

Note: when running DxDiag get an error at start  (which may be result of being online doiing this at the time?)

"Error: Problem getting sound info, result code = 0x8878000a (The request failed because DierctSound resources, such as the priority level, were already in use by another caller.)"

Would it help if a if I emailed my DxDiag to you?

Would love to get this problem worked out!!!!

TY for lookin at this :D

Having sound problems as well.

Ex: Spit9. Engine starts with sound. No sounds after that, to include engine. Can force the sounds on if I stall the AC and cause the stall horn to sound, then all sounds are heard. As soon as I correct the stall and the stall horn quits, all sounds quit as well.

Also, if I fly for a few minutes and don't touch any controls, the sounds come on, move to another view, especially with the mouse, sounds quit.

Fresh, full install.

OK here is what i've managed to do so far.

autoexec.bat vs autoexec.TSH  Also found files named b and c but no extension and nothing in em????

What is with this TSH file?????   Said it was a file created by system configureation program?????  And do not edit Autoexec.bat.  So tried editing Autoexec.tsh and no luck :(

Could not modify or delete autoexec.bat or autoexec.tsh!!!!!

Finally went into dos mode and deleted all autoexec.* files  and got rid of it.  And renamed the b and c files.

Hmm what is ydnie no exension?  got about 4 different file in my root directory with no extension.

Now I've got onboard sound turned off (SoundMax) and unistalled and reinstalled the soundcard BUT no volume control in system tray!!!

No longer get error message from DxDiag anyways :)

Haven't tried AHII yet but hope my sound problems are fixed :)

Still reassembleing my system after gonig though several hours of looking and trying to fix things :(

Thanks HT your reply gave me a clue and I started looking for anything and everything that might create problems.  LOL course I removed allot of software I now have to reinstall.

Anyone got an idea of what happened with this TSH file???

Note: system would hang on shutdown allot before I got rid of the TSH file, now it shuts down properly.

Well AHII sounds now seem to be working just fine!

Vox seems to be working fine!

Wasn't exactly a driver issue, was more of a misplaced doubled up driver thing???

Anyway got everything working like it should now :)

TY all for your help :)

relnotes.txt Turtle Beach Santa Cruz v.4193 WDM driver
for Win 98SE, ME, 2K, XP
                          June 23, 2003

v4193 - New Features/Fixes
==========================
*  5.1 Gaming support!  Now you can play the latest 5.1 games with the 5.1
speaker config and hear everything you are supposed to.

*  Windows Media Player 9 5.1 support added under XP.
Now you can play multi-channel WMA files!

*  SRS CSII 5.1 plugin for MP9 works with this driver.

*  EAX 2.0 fully compliant.  Query for BasicSupport of Deferred EAX
   properties now works.

*  Fix for games where all sound would suddenly stop.

*  Fixed Hibernate/S3 issue where center/sub would not work without a speaker
   config change after resume.

*  Fixed game port conflict with MPX/nForce motherboards.

*  3d sounds with elevation playback distortion free.

*  DSound primary renderer now follows the speaker config.  Example going
from 5.1 to headphone, all 3d sounds will now play out two channels.
This corrects missing sounds in games.

*  AC3 digital over SPDIF now works in 98SE.  Detects if the AC3 node should
be utilized in the topology based on system support.
   98SE requires QFE 269601USA8.EXE, 2K requires SP2.

*  Enhanced MIDI playback with better timing and fixed region exclusive
   (hihats)

*  Fixed DSound volume scaling. Now distant sounds in games are more audible.

*  Matched Center/Sub volume scaling to front/rear output levels.

*  Fixed distortion/intermittent noise playing multiple channels at various
   sample rates.

*  Synced up the windows speaker modes with Santa Cruz Control Panel.

*  Improved Installer.  Removes old driver and installs new one. Corrects
missing support files when uninstalling/reinstalling without restarting.
9x now prompts for a reboot after driver install.

*  Bugchecks on uninstalling resolved.

*  Optimized boot time and resume from standby times.

Additional Notes:
=================
*  XP ONLY: Santa Cruz effects may not work when playing certain multi-channel
   ( >2 ) streams while in 6 speaker mode.

*  You can use the 'restore defaults' in the Santa Cruz Control Panel to use
the default speaker setting you selected during the install.  Please note
that other presets do not affect the speaker config or the master volume.

*  To load the Santa Cruz tray icon (blue speaker), simply run the Santa Cruz
Control Panel from the Start Menu or Windows Control Panel. Right click on
it and select the 'Load System Tray' from the context menu.

*  98SE ONLY: if you install the QFE for AC3 support, the mixer device will
show two wave sliders in tandem.

Enjoy and thank you for choosing Turtle Beach!

I have a Santa Cruz. That driver did not fix this problem for AH2.

I don't use 5.1... just stereo/headset.

The only fix I know of, per Hitech, is to degrade your hardware acceleration (found on the Controls Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Volume/Advanced/Performance). Most people are ok after moving the slider back one notch. I have to move mine back 3 notches to solve this problem. I  is very annoying since I don't have any problems like this with any of my other games including a ton of flight sims.

I contacted TurtleBeach about it. They said no more new drivers or fixes for the Santa Cruz are scheduled. So I am stuck with the above fix since I won't abandon an outstanding sound card that works great with everything but one game.

Like streakeagle, I don't use 5.1 either, however, I fixed my problem. streakeagle, try this if you haven't already.

In the Santa Cruz control panel, Synth tab, kick up the "Maximum Software Notes". I set my to 512 and everything seems to work fine.

Guys, thanks very much for all the help and the bumps.

CYA's up.

Did you find a permanent fix?

I noticed a few beta patches ago (37 or 38) that my sound worked fine (I forgot to knock the acceleration down), but after the next patch it went back to having the cutout problem.

Maybe I had bumped some other setting and didn't notice it?

I can't wait to experiment when I get home since you seem to have solved the problem :)

Strangely enough, toggling the EQ seems to solve the problem. It is still an annoyance, but that is much better than knocking down the sound acceleration 3 notches :)
