The 234 while a fun plane really has no role in AH except that of having a good time.
The 234 bomb aiming system was quite different then what we have in AH.
The 234 "bombed" in 3 fashions.
1. Low Level bombing used only when the target was obscured, the pilot simply flew level and dropped the bombs when it seemed appropriate.
2. Shallow dive attacks where the pilot would drop from about 5,000 meters to under 1,500 meters (16,400 to 4,920 feet), aiming the bombs through the periscopic sight that stuck up above the cockpit.
3. High-altitude horizontal attacks. Since the Ar-234 was a single-seat aircraft, the pilot had to double as the bombardier, and did so with the help of a sophisticated Patin autopilot system. The pilot would fly to within about 30 kilometers (19 miles) of the target, engage the autopilot, swivel the control column out of his way to the right, and then lean over and sight the target through the Lotfe 7K bombsight. The bombsight was linked to the autopilot. As long as the pilot held the target in the crosshairs, the autopilot would change the aircraft's heading accordingly, and then the bombsight would automatically drop the bombs at the right moment.
Also, I dont think the 234 should have the formation options as most sorties I have read about involved single planes.
With 1 plane and just 1500kg of bombs even with an "improved" bomb aiming the 234 wont become "over used" but will actuallly find a niche in the AH bomber planeset as a "schnellbomber".
I understand there were issues in AH1 that prevented the periscope from functioning. Are these issues still the same in AH2?
If they are they are we will just have to do without the periscope site for shallow dive attacks. However, its mho that putting the "Patin autopilot system" (or a version of it) into AH2 would be a good thing for the 234 and to the players who would enjoy that plane.

Excelent!, be cool if this was in some way doable:)

234 was a well forcasted Casulaty of version 1.10 which was a great shame that it should become a hanger queen since it use to be alot of fun.
I'd also like to see some improvements made so upping a 234 is made worthwhile. But really when the majority of buffers use them as low level airfield runs since they can't be bothered to learn to bomb with the new system I doubt people will take the time to learn the 234's strengths no matter what is done.

234s are good for taking out a cv as long as you don't get blown up by intercepters and the cv doesn't change vector.

Batz - perhaps the autopilot bombing system should work the same as the land mode for ship shells except it steers and releases the bomb accordingly. Click on the map in the periscope (bomb sight calibration mode) should set the target. The autopilot should then steer towards the target. When in the main bomb view mode, an X appears on the target, clicking again on the target in the perescope should re-correct the steering point.
It is also my understanding that the Patin system was modelled for most modern bomber systems post WWII.

I'd love to use the 234 more, but with the 2X fuel burn multiplier you will never be able to use it.
-
yeah with its unhistoric bomb aiming and high fuel mod you could make the 234 free and it would still be a hangar queen.
Maybe a few folks would fly it around in external view to have fun trying to line up tail gun kills.

I think 234 races would become popular too. If not, they should be.

Technically, it was in Silence of the Lambs first, uttered by Buffalo Bill. Thus, the whole seamstress and transvestite statement. Sick and stupid joke, I know, but I am sick and stupid.

Getting back on the subject - Something needs to be done to get the AR234 back in the game!!
-
Has anyone else noted that the lead plane in the formation will tend to have a catastrophic right engine failure on some fields - almost like it has hit something?
On the Whole I like the AR 234, she's fast, is a blast for upsetting rookies and even with the 2x fuel burn i have no issues RTB with the bird.
Any input on the engine damage issue much appreciated.
-
we should also be able to view the rear gun picture through the periscope as in real life. It's not bad using ext view to kill people and the cannons ARE deadly, but the Arado should become more useful as a perk plane.

Even without a formation you have a better than even chance of "hitting" something invisible on the runway. Bug reported about this a long time ago they just never got around to it I guess.
..on subject - I much prefer the original bombing sight and no formations. Perhaps this could be an option for the 234. Fly a single bomber get the original bombsight. When you fly a formation, you would then use the calibration bombsight.
This would give some options in the gangbang hell that is MA. Batz is right, 234 should not be available in formations - and the gun sight needs to be fixed for it to be worth much.

The problem with the old bombing system was that it was too easy to pinpoint targets from 30K.
If you allowed both most would use the old one because it was much easier and much less frustrating.
The current system gives you no clue if your calibration is good or not. The only way to know is to bomb.
The new bombing system was a mistake IMO.
They are complicated and simply frustrating.
The old one was too easy though.
Bomb dispersion would have worked IMO.
Fly at constant speed decreases dispersion.
Turning would increase dispersion.
You also have the bonus of decreased precision at high alt.
So no more 30k lanc closing bases.
All with a system that seems much simpler.

zanth..u scare me..get off my computer...

Must admit I haven't been in a bomber since 1.10. Frankly because I can't see anything their use for. Since there are no strategic targets or such worth the 1 hour plus to even bother with.

Which is one of the reason few people bother learning to use them. They are useless since strat targets cannot have too much effect without ruining other player's fun.
Which is not the point of bombers.
And why should I bomb targets for perks when the only plane I can get with them is the useless Arado 234.
The problem is that we cannot go back to the old bombsight because it was just too damn easy and boring.
I could bomb acks from 20k with 50 kg bombs in my Ki67. :(
