........if I use P2P programs to download Mp3s?
A few days ago I rounded up all my programs and MP3s and saved them to another one of my comptuers and reformated the machine. It was so full of spy junk that I can't even begin to tell you the problems I had with it.
I used the machine to do the more risky things like download songs programs ect... Once I'd get them I'd make sure they were clean and move them to another machine. But I had to reformat the other day. It was just too much. Hijackers, trojans, you name it I probably had it lol.
So with all of the lawsuits going on and people getting busted for downloading MP3s. Is it still safe to download them? The way I've seen things, is that if you download massive amounts of songs then you are more likely to get busted. I could be wrong but that seems to be the trend of things.
Anyways, what are the better P2P programs out there? Kazza just seems to suck more than the rest. I used Lime Wire for a while, up until a few days ago. But I could be over looking a better program. Any ideas?

Kazaa Lite used to be the best program out there, however it isnt immune to the RIAA's eyes. Stick with IRC, newsgroups, or bit torrent.

I wouldn't sweat it, you probably have a better chance of getting hit with lightning.
Besides, they aren't prosecuting anyone really over this, the worst is the recording industry is suing some of the biggest offenders and usually settling for a couple grand.
Nobody is going to jail.

So what would you recomend? I used like I said Lime Wire. That seemed to be the fastest as far as getting MP3s.
Is there anything out there that maybe I dont know of?

no it is illeagal in the US to Download or Upload... the facts of the internet make downloading much harder to track.
People offer many uploads from a given IP, which is proably accociated with your MAC, unless you spoof it...
so the point is, your only downloading one thing at one time .... you can offer tons of uploads......
The US is calling it a crime to copy pattern's of 1's and 0's ....
Think about that alone for a second ... and think about REAL crime...
apparently this can be much worse than oh .. speeding, running red lights .. or you know crap that endagers peoples lives .. creates victims and such ....
At some point i hope the US realizes it's stupid and ludicrous to try to control information ..... we shouldn't have invented the computer if that is what we wanted. And why is one pice of information more valuable than another ? Copyright? Just give it up .... if you don't want the world to have it don't publish it,
otherwise non-profit reproduction is basicly a human right ...... Big Brother sayign we can't use equipment to copy patterns? ..
What if we had looms and patterns on blankets? Would it be illegal to copy someone elses loom pattern? Liveing in a country of morons...
Canadian's don't have this problem to this degree... they seem to be able to adapt to technology .... they consider it a 'private copy'....
maybe they don't let thier corporations keep them in the past?

BTW, I wouldn't recommend keeping a lot of downloaded files visibile to someone looking to see what you are sharing, that is the people they go after.

yeah... When I get them I noramlly just toss them into an unshared folder. Either to sort through or just so like you said, no one knows what I am downloading.

kazza network is dead however if you have the install program it still works

Bit Torrent works very well for apps,movies,tv shows etc. Do a google search to find out where to download bittorrent, once you install it use this to search for stuff. The higher the # of seeds the faster the download.

Downloading MP3's is the least of your problems Morph.... You're going to jail for something else:p

just about any criminal communication violation has to do with sending information not receiving.
I don't know of any prosecuted cases for file sharing (just civil judgments), but if they where they would go after those sharing first, much better chance of a conviction.

still use kazaa lite, and nobody will mess with me here for dl either as long as you dont dl alot of child stuff.

MoRphEuS, how can you find if theres spyware on the computer. im kinda curious and i want to look at my system. i was on kazaa for awhile and i want to make sure that someone didnt slide something into my system.

Kazaa Lite, Emule and Bittorrent are the best IMO.
I use Kazaa for music, Emule for a bit of everything (Slow) and Bittorrent for whatever I find interesting in Suprnova :)

google for a program called "ad-aware" or just go to download.com. I can guarantee that you have plenty of spy/adware.

before I deleted kaaza and winmx, I was finding 10-20 pieces of spy-ware a week, and Norton av picked up a virus every month or 2.
since I deleted them I've had no virus problems at all and only about 6 or 8 spy-ware per month.

There are many ways to tell.
One way is that you computer, like mine did, just has a mind of its own. It was freaking possessed. lol. Hijackers, trojans, worms, you name it, I had it. Seeing as this is what I was using this computer for I wasn't really upset. I would just use it to get the crap from Kazza and other sites that I knew probably were "dangerous" to go on. Scan them make sure they were clean and move them to another computer.
There are programs like SpyBot or ad-Aware that go in and take out alot of the junk thats on your system. But sometimes they just dont cut it. Even a V-scan wont do it sometimes.
BTW Mane, well said. The US does seem more worried about info and 1's and 0's than true crimes sometimes. Very sad.

btw guys. I went with Lime Wire for my MP3s and a newer program called Ares.
Ares was downloading software at an astounding speed! I had Norton System works 2004 downloaded and cracked in under 20 minutes lol.
Lime wire had 30-40 songs downloading which were all done in 10 minutes.
Yes, if skuzzy is reading this he's probably not happy. "your killing your connection!" Funny thing is though it didnt seem to hurt it that bad. I went right into the DA last night after about 2-3 hours of downloading stuff and had no problems and noticed no difference.

had the lite version, but with 3 kids in the house and me often out of town, we still had troubles. their was a lot of crap in the files they d/l'd.
all a file needs is the name of something a kid really wants and all system security seems to go out the window.
I can buy a lot of music for the price of replacing the info on my drives, plus the quality of shared files is so random that I usually ended up just buying the CD anyway and replacing the d/l'd files.

I like his avatar, but even most 13 yr olds have stopped using the caps mix nonsense. Specially in a game and board populated mostly by grown men.
