LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's computer operated air traffic control system is not operating today, British Airways says.
All flights from London's Heathrow airport have been suspended until further notice due to the failure, a Reuters reporter at the airport said on Thursday. "There has just been an announcement that there will be a delay of at least two hours," he said.
"The computers at Swanick air traffic control have gone down. We understand they (air traffic control) are operating manually," a spokeswoman at British Airways said.

oops obviously the Labour Governments plan for privatisation is not going to plan.......I'll bet there's a major panic going on at No 10 as they try to get someone to volunteer to be interrogated on the news tonight - you guys have NO idea how much British journalists hate politicians - it's going to be good!

The puters were prolly running on windows :p
Kinda wierd that there is no backup system.

Ok who pulled the plug?

We dont know yet, but we suspect that somehow Mr Black has something to do with it.

...Just on my shift last tuesday Finnish ATC system hanged... had to order 1 plane shut down and slot allocation messages swarmed my message panel... had to write all strips by hand.
Didn't like a bit.

This kind of thing happens at Chicago O'Hare just about every week. I think they still use flares and signal lights there.

Maybe this is part of something bigger...much bigger, like maybe AH2 is gonna get an ATC system. Yeah thats its....he was just testing the code on the brits system so we dont have to beta test it :) I firmly belive that its Pyro tho, Hitech looks way to cute and fund.

Apparently it was at West Drayton and not Swanick. It was the computer system that printed out all the paper route tags for the controllers - info of the flight etc. There was a 2 hour delay whilst they manually written all the flights down.
Of course that's what we've been told, rumour has it they tried AHII and they got a CTD! :)
-
Rumor is their computers were using the old Ultima Online servers which explains the system crashing.
-
please stop trying to shift the blame away from Pyro.
Pyro....may we have a statement?

100 x = 0
200 if x > 1 goto 400

The system, built and programed in France, had a minor problem today when Lufthansa sent a flight to London. The system surrendered.
