You are running a pretty old verion of the Catalyst drivers.  Go to ATI's WEB site (http://www.ati.com) and get, at least, the Catalyst 4.3 drivers for that card.
Be sure to remove the old driver (Start->Settings->Control Pane->Add/Remove Software) before installing the new driver.

You may be running into power issues as well.  The 9800XT is a very fast card, but it is also very power hungry.

Does it happen in any other newer game too?

How much Watts has your power supply?

Does it simply reboot or does anything else happen too (sound, BSOD)?

What are your BIOS settings? Try to load the defaults.

Especially memory settings and power supply troubles can cause such problems and reboots.

I now download the new katalyst, my power suply is 350 W,
not something special but enough watts i can say.
I was running AHII fine until the 27 upgrate.Ofcourse i have done
a new clean download of the ah.exe.
The fact that it does the same thing with fx 5200 and 9800xt makes me think is not a driver problem.
The bios , maby.
The pc runs fine with AH I and with every other soft.
I ll inform you after the download. (pstn).
Thanks :)

Hade - AHI ran fine on my computer too until I started AHII. It would either reboot or shutdown my machine.

I  upgraded my ENERMAX 350W to a 500W. I have a ATI 9700pro and it's VERY power hunger.  If you have USB devices or other perfs attached, it'll draw even more power.   Get yourself a bigger powersupply - perferrably a brandname one.

I have run the new katalyst drivers, nothing, i have turn bios to
default, nothing, i have throw out of the box the new audigy and
have turn back to on board sound, only 1 usb dev (joy) , and i dont realy think , in final, that my pc has any problem because
every other soft runs perfect including AH1.
Result a big crash & reboot.
I see a white screen, then a blue one, then a little brown window
who load some skins and there before it ends it crashes.
This has begin to drive me crazy.
Can someone in this world help me, or i have to buy a new pc ?
Thanks all for your responces !

So, it crashes during the skin caching process. This could point to a software problem. Maybe Hitech could include some debug code.
However, there is still the possibility that your power supply/AGP port or memory is causing the problems or something else.

Hade - all you need is just a more powerfull power supply - it's that silver box with all the wires coming out of it that plugs into your motherboard and machine devices.

It'll cost you around $80US.

Is it possible that it is your regional setting of XP? I beleive you are running the Greek Language version.

Dunno if power supply is the problem

Running 9800 Pro here

A Freezer Bay off the pwr supply also.

And I'm using a 300Watt power supply with no problems

Hajo,

His power supply could be failing.  I had similar problems with my "piece of crap, *&^%((&, *%$$%&, $$&*&$$##.....Sony Vaio" a few years ago...see my love for that!

Anyhow was a powersupply going bad and that was one of the first symptoms.

I trashed it and grabbed a new puter.....will never by a Sony computer again.

Regards,

:)

Sony Viao sucks. I remember when they used to show commercial around here all the time and every one went out and grabed one because it had the almighty Sony name to back it up. A lot of people have expensive paper weights now. I don't think it is the power supply though. Depends what all he has plugged up. I would unplug everything like cd rom(s) drives take out any modems, sound card etc.... Then boot the pc with just the enssientials and see if it still happens.

( fx 5200 was doing the same ).

I open first time with the new PS i run AHII and i loose my C for
ever (crash) and i cant even format it.
Now my C is splashed in the wall and monday i receive my new pc.

Hades....sorry to hear you had to buy another PC.

Computers can be troublesome to say the least.

With so many variables in the equation troubleshooting a PC can be a real pain in the a^%.

Hope you enjoy your new PC.

After i install my new HD i check just cause and AHII runs perfect.
Now, what was the reason ? We ll never know.
registry prob ? i had also made a format and a  new install.
Hardware problem ? everything exept AHII was running perfect.
I want just to say to the guys that has similar problems..
for 3 days i cut my pc in parts and build it again.
If it runs in this (my) pc it can run in everything.
Dont let your self down and if nothing works,( we suppose you have the right hardware) then make 1 or 2 final kamikaze formats
and maby it will work.

p.s Nothing was installed in the new hd exept windXP pro, vidDrivers, soundDrivers,DX9b.
The ahII runs from another drive.(ahii installed before).

A big thanks to all for your help :)

edit: it runs with the drivers (old) from the cd of 9800xt, and 2 years old sound drivers of the onboard sound chip.
I dont think new drivers is the problem.
I suspect corrupted windows files or other programs who use some sources needed for AHII and only for this (AH I was running fine).

Final solution. Format, install Vdrivers,Sdrivers,DX9b and AHII.
ONLY.
After you secure AHII runs Then install other prog and check it.

I was having the same problems basically but after looking deep into my system, it turns out AH2 was crashing because of registry problems.   After cleaning out the registry of a ton of bad entries left over from uninstallers that failed to clean out the registry, I tried AH2 again and all was working fine.   Although I do have a small video problem now with Patch 39.
